X-Type sub upgrade questions

I've been looking at a few things for my Jaguar and the first to be replaced will be the rear subs. I really like the Elemental Designs 6.5" subs but I'm unsure on what resistance to get. I *may* throw an amp in there in the future, haven't made up my mind yet.

Which voice coil combination should I purchase for a direct swap? Any help and/or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would prob stay away from ED subs. I have heard a bunch of mixed reviews. You could try JL Audios 6W3V3-4 (i have personal experience with these in an X-type). Plus if you do deide to upgrade to a larger sub in the trunk these make great midbass unnits. I have removed them, but i was running them free air with a small 50X2 amp.
Or if you are trying to save money look into the Kicker 08CVT654. This is a nice shallow mount unit.
Oh and i checked my old factory sub, and they measure out to 3.63ohms. So you want to make sure you get a single 4ohm or a dual 2ohm and run the voicecoils in series.

The subs sound MUCH better than the factory subs but still underpowered. Traffic Jamz built a box to hang from the rear deck for about $325 so I've got less than $450 total in the setup. They ARE a little under-powered though so a new amp will be going in in the near future. (I already have a new Polk Momo 50x4 I picked up from Tweeter on clearance.)
As soon as I figure out how to upload photos to my website with my new netbook I'll post them on here.

I'm digging up an older post, but I would love to see pics of your sub-box. I've got an 05 x-type with the subs in the rear deck. I'm thinking of doing the same, but possibly trying and IB setup to see if there is any improvement first. I'm a huge fan of Elemental Designs and I'm waiting for some free time to put my components in the front doors.

I wonder how they would do as an infinite baffle with the stock sub amp.

I got my ED components at about half price when they had a special, but my view was to keep them and transfer them from vehicle to vehicle. I've left too many high end speakers in cars before and it is such a waste. Now I view it as a long-term investment in sound quality. I guess in short I'm saying go ahead and spend a little extra if you can so you always have a great sounding set of speakers.

Just out of curiosity, how are you going to have them install the amp when you do replace it? Are you going to use speaker level inputs on your new amp or is there a different way?
By the way, I'm a huge fan of the ED stuff. I'd like to get one of their e5 series 12's when I setup my new car.

Qwiketz,
I'm not sure if you are referring to me, but I'll answer anyway...
I have and LC6i (yeah, line level converter) that I took out of my Mazda that I used for the previous setup, but that was to push two 10" Alpine R subs. For the time being I plan to try to install the two 6 1/2" ED subs on the factory amp and go from there. If there isn't a noticeable improvement, I'll try adding the LC6i and a small amp.

I'm really starting to like their stuff a lot, too. Next step is 6.5" components, another amp and an in-dash sat-nav receiver.
