Hi, Gaz from Brisbane here.
Just got myself a 95 sport and loving it. Everything i expected.
A few minor problems but for the age pretty much expected.
The wife is extremely impressed.
As i only do around 10k per year this one should be in my possession for some time.

Hi, My name is Richard and I have just joined the forum. I have also just brought my first Jaguar, its a 1997 XJ Sport 3.2. I picked it up in Auckland last Friday and drove it back to Napier, about 450 km's. Great fun!! Issues at the moment are signs of oil near the onside differential stub, I'm getting that checked. Also the stereo on/off volume knob is broken (a major).

Hi All

Brett from Wellington, have a 2003 X350 XJ8 3.5SE. Super car, quick enough as I also have a Renaultsport RS265 for mental days. The Jag is just a joy to drive and economical to boot.

Welcome Brett! Although the antipodean section can be a little quiet, the X350 section should be able to assist you with anything you need to know about your car.

I think I posted a few months ago?

However, I have just received my white XF, with black pack and 20" Kalimnos wheels.

It's due to go back to the dealer due to poor bonnet and boot fit, plus the bonnet having been touched up, with no kilometres on the clock.

Hopefully, I will, soon, be able to report, with photos, a much better car.

It's a 3 litre supercharged petrol and drives beautifully!

Hi all,
New to the forum and new to Jag ownership. I'm from Kiama on the South Coast of N.S.W. I have a '91 XJ40 Daimler that I drove up from Melbourne where I bought it. She went like a dream and didn't miss a beat, and got surprisingly got economy to boot.
One picture was taken on the sand at Mallacoota where I stopped for the night on the way home and the other was just taken on the side of the road.

If anyone's interested, I included more about the Daimler in the forum intro section.
Also I used to be a mechanic so will try and help out were I can when I learn more about the idiosyncrasies of Jaguars.

Welcome Shanncon and Valguard. How does the supercharged V6 go in fuel in the real world? Do you have any figures so far? Like the XJR, I'm tipping week to week fuel usage depends a lot on how much fun you want to have!

Good to see another XJ40 with a home. It took me a while to warm to the XJ40, but I really like the lines now, and the square headlight models look very handsome. Being a mechanic will be helpful, as will the XJ40 section of these forums.

Hi valgaurd. Where in melbourne did you buy that car? Saw a similar at a jag wreckers in ringwood a week or two ago and though gee thats better than mine!

i have a similar kingfisher blue '91 xj40 sovereign, cream interior. I picked her up in traralgon unfortunately abuse by the previous owner had pushed the radiator back, the fan was rubbing on it and broke some way down the higway. I did really enjoy my short cruise with her though.

Now with all that business fixed its new rubbers for the front end, new discs, new tyres and whatever else i discover. shes done 340k so no spring chicken but i love the colour and she runs smooth.

Had the battery flat for a while now radio needs a code where would I find that?

Also heater/aircon fan only seems to work on max, and only comes out the demist holes.....hmmm

Hi,
No she didn't come from a wreckers. I bought her on the 22/09 through V&A Spiteri, a independent Jaguar specialist in Blackburn North. That's who the previous owner was getting to do the work on the car, so it was left up to them to sell it for his sister after she inherited it after the big "C" caught up to him. It was his pride and joy so it wouldn't have been sold otherwise. Even had the original plushy mats nicely washed and stored in the boot, back on the floor now.
Mine's just brought up 240k odd, in my service history book the last service entered in it was at 175k or 179k and that was about 10 years ago, so it's only done 70k odd in 10 years.
For radio codes just call a Jag dealer and give them your VIN, you may have to take in your rego papers as proof of ownership though. As long as it's the original radio too.
Fan only working on max is usually the fan speed switch, after years of use the internal contacts wear out. Not sure if you can replace just the switch and I can't look it up as my computer's dead and my repair manuals on CD. Someone here would know.
Air only coming out the demister. I'm only guessing here but I think the flaps that control where the air goes are moved by engine vacuum, same as my '89 Range Rover. If the hose is broken or leaks than the flaps don't move anymore. I could be wrong and they may be moved electrically or some other way.
I do know they are prone to problems with the microswitch in the A/C's facia, something I want to look into myself as my A/C only works on manual, on auto it feels as if just normal air is coming in. No biggie as it works really well on manual, got too cold when I was bringing her home till I figured out the humidity buttons, owners manuals are handy at times lol.

Troy theres a vacuum line in the engine bay coming from the firewall area, and its been wrapped up out of the way and obviously disconnected from the source of vacuum. sounds like I need to investigate where it comes from. Typically people disconnect these because their car is running rough and they suspect an air leak. Could be the switch on the fan...some timely info on the xj40 page re cracked solder...and some other stuff not sure what they are talking about i think I better study some auto electrics if Im going to make it with this car.

Your car sounds like a good buy and its been taken care of, a bit better than mine can I ask how much you paid for it?

Had a look at mine today to see if I could stop my A/C flaps from working. I found 1 vacuum hose running from the intake manifold between 5 & 6 intake pipes. With the engine running there is a definite suction there when you pull the pipe off. It runs to the firewall just near the wiper motor (LHS). Taking it off the A/C controls still worked but seemed to get slower the more they were used. I know the Range Rover has a small vacuum tank so you could still operate them for a short time after switching the engine off. If Jaguar does use a vacuum operated system I'd be surprised if they didn't also have a tank.
The only other hose that looks like a vacuum hose runs from the front of the engine bay near the washer bottle to the RH corner of the firewall. This would be for the windscreen washers.
The only way I could get only air out the demister holes was to have the fan speed control straight up (demister) and the second button from the left on (screen).
I have read here about the the cracked solder problems, definitely something to look into for your issues.
One bonus for me fiddling around with this is I found mine does work on auto, I just didn't have it set up right.
I picked the old girl up for $5400. It was advertised with 12months Vic rego that they were going to pay when the sale went through but cause I would have to have cancelled the Vic rego to take it to NSW they didn't pay it and reduced the price. So about $6500 with 12months rego. She was in my book a rare eBay find.

Hi lads, dj from qld, 1998 xjr, and my old bloke has an e and mk2 track cars, 420g, mark ix and is building a low drag. I'm on the lookout for a nice xj6 series 1 manual in case anyone stumbles across one.

Love the r, only had her about a month after looking for a while. I scared a golf R who thought he'd jump me and win the freeway on ramp race today only to find he couldn't get in front!

Hi DJ. Looks like you're a member of a bit of a Jag family. What's your old man's 420G like? I've always wanted to have a MkX/420G.

Glad you're enjoying your XJR. You'll have to post up some photos. That little Golf wouldn't be the first "hot" hatch embarrassed by an XJR!
