Hi guys. I am about to purchase an XJR in Sydney and need to get the car inspected first. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good quality mechanic who knows what to look for on these cars. I live on the Gold Coast and am a bit lost. Any help appreciated.
Cheers
Luke
Presents very well in the ad but I think it's a little over priced. It does not have the R1 package (Brembo brakes, BBS wheels) which for that sort of money, I think is a must.
There are X350 XJR's for only $5K more on the market, albeit with higher mileage.
So this one should be low-mid 20's, not 30....the same car with double the mileage would be $15K
I have just purchased a 2000 XJR and am on the lookout for a South West Sydney based mechanic. Where are you? You can PM me with the answer if you want.
If you're in South West Sydney call up Bruce at Jagworks in Penrith, he doesn't do servicing / mechanical work but he has a guy in the area he recommends, can't remember the blokes name now though...
Ok, the guy he's probably referring to is Tony Arditto, or his son, at Prospect. Comes with a good recommendation from what I'm hearing. But I would also add - talk to Alvin at AAC Automotive, Moorebank. A South Korean working in Australia on pommie cars, but he comes credentialed from JRA Australia when they were around and is very good (when I had my XJ6 SIII's). I spoke to him yesterday and he said he knows the X300 and X308s well. He is a lone operator, and works one car at a time - but he was amazing when I used to use him, and is close to me. Just my opinion, and I have yet to use him on the X308 XJR, which I pick up tomorrow (and am very excited about).
Just ant to say a big thanks to Cambo for giving me a no BS review of the car! I am happy with what condition she is in and managed to negotiate the price down to $22500. With not to much work the car should be looking top shelf pretty soon. Needless to say I'm very excited to see her! I'll post a pic of the new family member as soon as I can. Again just want to take my hat off to this forum and in particular Cambo for his help with guiding me through the purchase. Love this forum and looking forward to sharing and asking advice in the future!
Yeah it was the black XJR on car sales. 80000kms and asking 30G. I ended up getting it for 22500. And have a few jobs to do to her to get her back up to top condition. But I'm stoked with her! Just drove her from Sydney to Gold Coast yesterday! Ended up doing a bit of night driving but that was ok very nice drive!

Nice car, good buy - Mine is the same colour, same year but has 196,000 kms on the clock :-( But is in perfect condition [every service at the same dealer [Alto Jaguar]. I paid $20k.
I was going to look at that one, but had my heart set on a Carnival Red one that was in Melbourne. It sold on the day I was going to tell the guy I would take it. Pissed me off no end, but 1 day later another red one came up in Sydney. 2000 model, with original Jaguar phone in the console, and an unopened tool kit in the engine bay. Done 153,000 km, and immaculate. I got it the next day for $22,500.
And wouldn't you know it, it threw the ABS lights on during the run down the freeway home... But thanks to the feedback on here, I got each wheel off, cleaned each ABS sensor, and after 100 metres, lights went off and it hasn't come back on since. Cleaned the backs of the mags while the wheels were off, and the inner wheel arches (including pulling the inner guards out and cleaning all the crud out).
