Not that I want to add to the nth/sth rivalry that already exists in this state. But it is a very big place. &, for many of us, the far flung parts of it are as foreign as another country (apart from State of Origin time!). So I was wondering if it would be advantageous to identify ourselves with the region of the state we reside in. I already have, in my signature. & I realise that not everyone's comfortable with letting out too much private info about themselves on a public forum, which I totally understand & respect. But it could give us a chance to meet up with like minded individuals, & at the very least, give us a chance to chew the fat about the cars we love. Not to mention getting to ogle some lovely old Jags, & take them out for a cruise. I am a member of the Nth Qld Jag Owners Club, which gives me access to many local(ish) Jag Tragics, like me. Though most are based in Townsville, where the club's also based, which is too long a drive (400 klms each way) for all but the most special occasions for me to be bothered with. The main benefit I get from my membership, & the reason I signed up, is it reduces my registration costs from $850 per vehicle per year, to $195 (classic Jags only, due to the 30 year rule). There are a few Far Northern Club Members around my area. But the only one I've met so far though is the Jag & Range Rover specialist who's going to be twirling the Spanners on my Cars. But I'd love to meet more, & maybe form a Far Northern Cruising Chapter, strictly for fun, of course. Any takers?

As most of us are in Brisbane & a few members are along the coast, I was going to suggest an idea but as you feel that driving 400 km is to far I decided to forget it & just do our own thing.
So enjoy yourself, which brings a song title to mind "All by myself"

Brisbane is 1400 klms away. I have done it in under 24 hours, but I'm older & wiser than that now, & usually take 2-3 days to do the drive, stopping at any scenic distraction I've not seen before. Unfortunately I've driven those roads so many times (inland & coastal), there's precious little I haven't seen, many times over. So these days I usually fly. It's the cheapest option too. I don't mind still doing the occasional long stint, as it takes me back to the marathon intracontinental blasts of my youth (Cairns to Darwin in 30 hrs, with a co-Driver, is my best). & if I am going to put myself through such an endurance test again I'd much prefer to do it in a Jag. But it'd need to be a bloody good reason to get me to do it. There are plenty of fun filled destinations within a days drive of here. I might even be able to think of one I've never been to before.

I think it is a great idea to do some Northen meets Scatcat.
Can I suggest have a look at the QLD role and perhaps send the applicable members a PM? You will see some from the Great Northen parts...some unfortunately just say Queensland so it is a bit hard to tell.

If I can help in anyway please let me know also.

The Nth Qld Jag Club I'm a member of hold some interesting meetings & runs, throughout the year, which have the dual benefit of fully complying with the club rego many of us run these cars on. So it'd probably be best to coordinate any meet up through them, if just to keep our insurance companies happy. I'm going to go on their next far northern excursion in April/May, hopefully in my newly rebuilt XJ6. & I'll talk to members then about the possibility of meeting up with south Qld Owners, probably around central Qld. It would be good to know who are in other Jag Owners Clubs, as we maybe able to organise something on a inter club level. Though at this stage I'd just like to keep it as an informal meet up, at maybe somewhere a little out of the way, yet thoroughly Qld, like Barcaldine, the birth place of the ALP. We could meet up at the front bar of the pub, where the 1893 Shearer's Strike started, & then cruise on out west to the Stockman's Hall of Fame at Longreach, finishing our tour in Dinosaur Country at Winton. I'd probably head north to Hughenden, at that stage, so I could cruise home through the Lynd, weather permitting. But I'd expect others to start tracking towards to their own homes, after Winton. One thing's for sure, it should really test our cars out. I'm up for it. Any takers?

I'd be keen for a Central Queensland meet later on down the track for sure and actually even had Bundaberg as a place to visit in mind for a while now. (obviously on the way to Central QLD)
We have an interstate meet next week to Tenterfield so once that is all done and dusted maybe we could plan something perhaps?
