whats the link to mock up your personalised plates? Is that the Transport department website?

Wow $2k + just to have a space?? Still thinking of doing it though.

i once saw "Mr Cool" on a porche once in QLD. (Eyes rolling). Oh my God. Lets just say his coolness factor didnt increase with that one! lol

Paul, there are many designs and styles to choose from, they start at $195 and go all the way up to $5000. Once you get over 6 characters they get expensive, they counted the space as a character I think.

"BGOOSE" ,No one except forum members will have a clue what it means, your call on whether to drop 3 grand into it. I would love he "STRA CAT" plate on my XJ6,but at $3250 I could have another Jag parked out front instead.
$400 or $500 I could possibly part with in agony for a plate, still I would have to really have nothing else I needed to spend that money on first. It's a big wad of cash for an accessory.

$445AUD = Ł248 so still a lot more expensive than in the US where they can get any available number for $30 or $40USD

There is a difference I think Graham in that the fee is annual for the plate/plates in the USA and here you buy/own the rights to the plate outright like the UK appears to.

So we can keep the plates and/or sell them again.

Default PP in QLD; then USA; then VIC ... and now NSW

Woe, woe, woe is me ... Not so in NSW I'm afraid Neil. As owner of [07-JAG] here on our S-Type, I am sad to report that we are subject to a 2-part revenue raiser.

Part #1 is levied as a one-off "Order Fee" ranging from $160 up to $295. This first part is charged essentially, for the creation of the plate. In an effort to show that not all the crims are behind bars making these number plates, the best part comes next.

Part #2 is levied as an "Annual Fee" that ranges from $99pa up to $440pa. This fee is added above and beyond all other fees, stamp duty, Fire Brigade Levy (thanks heaps, Clarke) and is also reputed to meet kickbacks to the PAPAPBF (Prisoners And Politicians All Purpose Benevolent Fund). This annual fee allows you to allocate it onto a vehicle you own and maintain as a registered NSW vehicle. As you can see, after a few years, we catch and then surpass Clarke's quote for his blank "space". Mind you [350-JAG] is still available.

While our car is levied at the lowest of each rate quoted above (I don't think of myself as a snob; I know I'm not a rich snob) this puts PP in NSW as "the gift that keeps on taking".

Cheers all,
Ken

I notice that "73 XJ6" and "XJ6 S1" are available...
I thought we had it tough with some of the prices. But paying an annual fee really sucks, that could add real quick.
This one is available for $495,still too much for me.

Not in Qld Paul, just a one off price to purchase the plates for life, but in NSW it has an annual fee.

That's correct Paul; I think only NSW charges annual fees for personal plates. The fees you have been discussing both in Queensland and Victoria are "one off" fees.

By way of comparison with Clarke's example [73XJ6] at $495 for outright purchase in Queensland ... in NSW that same plate does not fit one of the known letter/number formats so would be charged at the one off order fee of $160 to $295 depending on style chosen plus an annual fee of $440 ... the latter charged each and every year ... forever.

So, you fellas are on not such a bad deal, eh?

Best wishes,
Ken

$440 a year?? That's extortion.
I brought AXJ-308 for $365 with no other fees attached. I wanted standard size plates with black background to blend with the antracite black car.
Any ATO worker look away now.....I also claimed it against the business.

I'll have to go back and edit my original comment to exclude NSW!

Default PPQ Prices

Guys,

A very old thread, but for all you fellow Qld'ers looking at personalised plates, a basic pricing structure.

The $445 and $495 plates are either

3 letters then 2 numbers or
3 letters then 3 numbers or
2 numbers then 3 letters or
3 numbers then 3 letters

$1095 gets you 2 letters then 2 numbers

Anything else (like 73 XJ6) is a prestige plate and cost $2395 for up to 6 characters. A space counts as 1 character.

7 characters is $3295

3 characters is $3500

2 characters is $5000

1 letter is out of this world. I know someone who owns TWO of these single letter plates, they are probably worth $30 - $50K each!

I am considering a 2x2 Flexi for my car at $1095, but I will keep thinking about that.

There is a roaring trade in Qld for fancy plates, a guy has the "JAG XJ8" plate for sale for $15000, open to offers..... Tell him he's dreamin'

Cheers

I have 01*XJR . It is a motorcycle plate but can be changed to a car plate. I bought it in 2001 in yellow and black to suit the bike when it cost less than $500. I was offered $1000 for it once but for that it will stay bolted to the inside of the lid of my tool box at work.
