The reason im excited about Blue Goose is a have alot of information on the car which makes me a lot more confident, plus the colour is one of the original desires, and the price is right. I have been talking with Grant behind the scenes via email. If he doesnt mind Ill paste in some more of the info on BG. BTW he comes with the Growler in the boot. Whaddya reckon? Would look better with the leaper or growler in this case?

No doubt about TB90 thought. Shes a beauty. Once I here back Ill start posting some info on her.

Damn i just wanna fly home and drive one of these!!!!!!

Definately think Mellow Yellow has gone down the short list to # 3 but he's still there.
Hi Paul

Do you mean

Growler in the Boot/Trunk or Growler on the Bonnet/Hood?

Don't put either one of them on, especially the 'Leaper' If you want to try one out, then stick one on with some 'Blu Tac' and then you will see for yourself how distracting it is.

What is the Year and the Colour of 'Blue Goose?' I'm guessing its 'Blue' there's a very 'Big' Clue in the Title!

But is She a different Shade of Blue to 'True Blue 90?' Has Grant seen 'True Blue 90' how do the Two Compare, How do the 'Stats Stack Up?'

'50 Shades' (aka 50 Shades of Grey) My Grey XJS went 'TU' in a Big Way! when the drivers side window wouldn't go down and 'Greg' is very kindly helping to fault find it for me.

I think it might be the Motor, as we have tried everything else and I somehow get the feeling that it will be 'Uber' expensive to put right.

That's the problem with Classics, you never stop spending money on the darn things!

If I win the Lottery on Roll over week, then I will be putting in a bid for 'Barbie' aka 'Shocking Pink' Or have my red one re sprayed the same Colour.

Flick: 'The Price is White' 'Grey Goose' and maybe 'Mellow Yellow'

Not sure about what the blue is on Grey Goose. Would love a pic out in the sunshine Grant!
1985 Jaguar XJS

Grant was telling me he thinks she comes with the original growler, he thinks its kept in the bonnet. The leaper is already installed as you can see from the picture.

The Blue Goose is 1985.

Grant laid out some good points about True Blue 90. I hope he doesnt mind me paraphrasing him a little. If anything sounds wrong it would be on my end not his but here goes:

For starters it is into the Marelli Engine Managment System years. So a step up.

He says they are good but do come with there own set of problems, which are easily fixed. Also also said the car rings a bell with him. (May of worked or heard of it before in his circles)

Also mentioned compared to the Blue Goose he is selling that it has more comfortable seats, has the Marelli system and also ABS breaks.

He said these later car builds are pick of the litter.

Still no reply yet from True Blue 90. I sent him an email inquiry but not sure if he actually has email. (Its set up through the Car Point website)

Cant ring him either as to unlock his mobile number you have to provide yours and receive an SMS code. Aint got not SIM card out here in the deep blue sea.

Mmm...maybe Im just being impatient. Just wanna get some details so we can start picking this apart. I am armed with alot of questions for him (thanks to Grant).

Hi Paul

Although I do not consider myself worthy of tying 'Grant's' Shoe Laces, with his all consuming knowledge of the XJS.

He is 'Bang on' with that Comment, the 90 is indeed the 'Pick of the Litter'
and as such is worth your while to 'Push the boat out for!'

Ideally you are looking for FMDSH 'Full Main Dealer Service History' with all the Stamps in the book.

Also how many previous Owners and also the condition of the Tyres (as they are very expensive to replace)

Leaving all of that to one side, this Car 'seems' a 'Cream Puff' if ever there was one.

Also I've seen better photo's!

So I think that if you ever get the chance to see her in the flesh, you are probably going to fall over!

It is only natural to start feeling excited, just don't convey that emotion to the Seller.

So if you're going home first, have a drive of 'Fern' to get over the 'Shock' and normalize your heart rate, before you go and Test Drive 'The Real Deal'

Morning guys,

I have reread ALL this twice, AND the PM's from Paul. My reasons are simple, even for me.

Some of what I scribe next has been touched on, FANTASTIC.

The ownership of a Jaguar Classic is a "Special moment" in ones life. Much like the wife (the first one guys).

The V12 is just waaaaay above that "special" rung on the ladder.

It is a marvel to behold, and one on ALL 12 cylinders at the 6500RPM is just spine tingling, even for me still today. Then the total silence, smoothness, of getting that "one of" body work flying down the road is not "wordable".

NOW THE CATCH.

Getting ANY of these "for sale" cars to that point can be sooooooo daunting. Little "things", and that can be 100's of little "things", are OLD, and in dire need of sorting, and these are the "things" that can drive one to drink, like me. Then the title of "Grumpy Old Man" follows quickly.

My understanding of Paul (PLEASE CANE ME IF I AM WRONG) is he is more than happy to "tinker" with the new toy, but above that, it is off to "the mechanic", which will be FUN at least.

Based on that ID, I suggest the "latest year", for the money available is the BEST WAY to go.

The Blue Goose, has paint marks near the leaper (as PM'd to Paul), the RH seat ratchet is "loose", and a few other items that are mostly related to the age of the beast more than actual neglect. OK, it dont leak oil, NONE, and yes there is oil in it haha. It runs on 12 cylinders ALL the time, and is mechanically very good. However, my "crystal ball" is the same brand as what you all have, and I cannot predict what is waiting to go AWOL next.

Now "True Blue" is a 1990, and has many, many updates over the 1985. The seats are MORE comfortable, the a/c is the Del3, the Marelli is worlds above (once sorted), the Lucas (even when sorted), and so on. The paint LOOKS better than the 1985, which is "fine", but a tad tired in MY opinion. The timber is BETTER. The tool kit is there and complete, the 1985 has no tool kit, or books.

The '85 is $5K cheaper than the '90, but that $5K could be gobbled up very quickly in my opinion. There is ALWAYS something to do to an XJ-S, and we all know that very well. Doing it yourself will keep that $$ in the bank much longer, but outside that, the drain could be huge, depending on what Paul wants the final product to look/be like, and we ALL want the best car in the world for NO $$ spent, remember??.

Soooooo, my suggestion, purely based on my XJ-S scars, bruises, crushed knuckles, vocabulary extension, drinking issues, NEED for another V12 and resisting well so far, is the 1990 is the pick at the moment. If a 1991/92 popped up that scenario will change.

Any car with add ons such as spoiler, chrome wheel arch dressings, fancy stereo's, sports steering wheels, non Jaguar road wheels, etc, are all a very personal thing, but I prefer a STANDARD car, that if I want, can add items to, that suits me. Removing some of these "add ons" can be big$ to do properly.

heh guys thanks again. Grant I really appreciate your honesty.

True Blue is probably the cheapest I have seen in Oz for over that particular year, however I have only been looking for a while. I wonder what sort of condition it is in now? Curious to hear back from the seller. I emailed him the questions you recommended me to ask.

mmm...might be the better choice but then again she mighten be available if he doesnt check his bloody emails!

I still like the Blue Goose with definate interest. Grant as you mentioned, there is another interested fellow gonna beat me to looking at it so I guess fate will decide. I wonder if he is real serious?

Hopefully there will be one bloody car for me to look at in SA else I wont get no road trip lol!

So you guys think with my situation, skills etc, I should steer clear of Mellow Yellow or still be on the short list?

Hi Paul

It's time to give 'Mellow Yellow' the 'Flick' as now you've seen 'True Blue 90'
at least in the photo's, you know what better is!

How old is 'True Blue's advert?

Or it could be that the Seller is not Computer Savvy.

I know how you are feeling and just how frustrating it is but hang in there it will be worth the wait.

It doesn't matter if any of them sell, there are going to be plenty to look at when you get home. Another just as good always seems to pop up just after you buy,I should know by now not to keep looking after I buy.
You have time to spare and a car to drive so don't rush the purchase,it may well be another couple of work trips before you find one.
I looked at about 15 cars over 3 months.

To add to the last post,I went out looking to spend $4k-$6k unregistered. Ended up getting lucky ans spending $2k + $1500 for rego, insurance,RWC and some small repairs.
And $2500 left over.(that I quickly spent on others in the fleet).

Heh guys. I have had a little advice on this already but getting more specific, just wondering how you guys would hand over the money in this scenario:

Fly to other state. Like car. Agree to buy car. Want to drive it home today or tommorow. Do I :

a) Meet in a secret location with a briefcase full of money...(im kidding)
ok im serious now...

a) Go to the bank together and draw out the cash and hand it over whilst he writes me a reciept. He has the car outside and lets me drop him off and I drive home to QLD.
b) As above but with a money order
c) Transfer money into his account and wait in crappy hotel....nah ....good hotel......until the money clears?

Obviously I would be keen to go home as soon as possible. Is there anything that would delay me, making me wait in hotels until stuff is sorted? SHould be all over the phone stuff right?
And also what do i do if the cars rego has ran out? Can I drive it back to QLD without breaking some law and get it sorted when i arrive home?

what? Please advise. i am such a green prawn at this!

Iam used to shady car sales men selling me the latest model Mitsubishi 4 cylinder that will fit dog and kids.

Help good friends!

Thanks OG

wow that Red Dragon is actually kinda nice. i wonder what condition she is in? Lol it makes me wonder when they say the car is presented in original factory condition (no work done on it in all those years?) and judging by the odometer she has been well driven. i suppose as we discussed that could be a good or bad thing. I guess its good to see what is on the other end of the scale (as opposed to SOW : Sex on Wheels aka True Blue 90), but yeah probably could talk that one down heaps.

So you find a car in VIC. You plane it down or similar. The car is a winner. What would you guys think of driving say, for example, a 1985 model v12 all the way back from VIC to QLD? (I mean what else could you do?)

I know, its subject to the cars condition and all, but would you guys do it?

I guess you would have to also be pretty confident about the car before you made the final decision to actually take the trip.

Any of you guys drove your car back from a long distance?

I drove mine from Melbourne to Canberra a 9 hour drive, no problem at all.
Take insurance out pior to driving back including breakdsown and go for it!
Do it it winter, and take some spare hose and clamps. Mine started leaking fuel 2/3rds of the way back, youcould smell it.

katoh makes the point of buying a vic rego, so I guess you could do similar in South Australia. Grant would the one to ask here, Ideally a registered car would be best,as an unregistered one could have been off the road a fair amount of time and not be roadworthy,or insurable for that matter, you would be best to research that a bit more ,

As for making payment, best to discuss with seller and see what you are both comfortable with. I deal in cash or bank cheque, cash up to couple thousand, then Bank cheque or direct deposit with a reference to the purchase so you have a record of payment.

Of the 21 cars I have "cleaned out" for Trevor, most have been cash, and the rest have been bank transfer direct into his account.

7 of them were purchased by people all over Australia as sight unseen, NOT my way, but when its a RARE car, I suppose they know what to expect.

I purchased both our S Types in Melb, and via wholesalers, so a 14 day permit was attached, and I drove them home. I paid in CASH on the day. The Black was $11, and the Silver was $14500. We flew one way on both occasions, and took the gamble, and if the car was crap, we take a cab back to the airport, and get a ticket to Adelaide, of which there are plenty from Tullamarine.

The X300 came from Canberra, same deal, one way flight. CBA next door, so a few days prior to flying I arranged for the $ to be there if I needed it. It still had rent on it, so drove it home, no issues. Its now for sale.

With Blue Goose, cash is fine. Trevor will include 3 months rego in the advertised price, when the deal is finalised. This can be done online/over the phone, and since we dont have rego labels anymore, it is good to go instantly.

I tried to ring True Blue, NO GOOD, no message bank, just rang out. I will try again tomorrow.

Any car you buy MUST have current rego, or a dealer affixed permit, to drive it on ANY road in Australia. Failing that, truck it home is the only option.

So cash is the go eh? How fat does $14500 look in an envelope?lol Did you say $11 for the other car? (u mean 11k?)

Oh heh by the way Grant. Did you mention you were going to get your stubbie cooler? lol

If you do happen to see the Blue Goose, and chance you could take a recent photo of her out in the Sunlight? Only if your going to see it for some reason. no biggie if you cant.

thanks so much for trying to make the call too.

OG thanks for the PM before bud

Clarke cheers bud. We'll go check out Mellow Yellow next month providing im not already driving one ha ha ha.

I was just starting to read "Experience in a book" that i downloaded off this site. Good read. Thanks for the heads up Grant.

well off to bed. back to the grind tommrow. Fix this fix that, run here run there. I keep try to bloody hide in my office so i can research jags all day lol! they wont leave me alone!

Paul,

I am going that way in the next few days to sort some issues with his other cars, and I will pick a day its not raining. I will run it outside and snap it.

Oh, yep $11K, old age and arthritis, is a good mix for keyboards, NOT.

HA, the $14500 is the bank envelope was a tad daunting, but once slid into wifes handbag, it disappeared with all the other female handbag essentials.
