Just back from 2500km tour
Hi all,
Just back from 2500km tour.
Melbourne (Australia) to Sydney, Canberra (The Nations Capital), South Coast of NSW, Orbost, Victoria and home.
Pleased to say, a faultless, thoroughly enjoyable trip.
No oil or no water usage.
Cruised beautifully on often chopped up roads...Canberra to coast then through country Victoria...pretty remarkable with lowered and sports oriented suspension and 35 profile rubber..... and that supercharger!!!
WOW!! on single lane roads it just spools up, howls its way to 5500+rpm and whips around and safely back in a matter of seconds.
Even my partner who is not a driver, commented how safe she felt with so little time on "wrong" side of the road.
If you haven't driven it and enjoy driving, the Clyde Mountain between Canberra and Coast is a beautiful piece of winding drivers road.
As is the stretch from Eden to Orbost.
That's it for now.
Cheers
Greg
Mark at Adriatic Motors, Williamstown, Victoria, did the latter work on the engine and PUR4IT managed 12.6l/100km for most of the trip, rising to 16l/100km on single lanes where there was a lot of overtaking.
And that fully laden with Aircon running constantly.

Greg,
I've moved this post from your Intro thread to Australia - Victoria / Tasmania Region. Not many members go back to an Intro thread after they've read it the first time and it won't get many views there.
Sounds like a great trip. I always enjoy reading about driving Jaguars - it makes a change from reading about repairing them!

I have had days on motorcycles like that, where you feel like the planets have aligned just for you.
I remember a ride on my 34th birthday(long time ago) when I scrapped both foot pegs many times and got the knee down a couple of times. Very memorable Thursday on a public road.
At 12-16L/ 100 km it has got to be an older car. Give us a clue! Mine doe's 12-18L/ 100 km, about 20 around town(driven a little enthusiastically) and 11-12 on the highway.

If Graham has moved your post to here from the intro section I guess you are a new member,so welcome to the forum Greg.
Maybe include your car in your signature so we know what has been giving you such a great drive, an XJR but which year?
Know exactly where you have been, done it a few times. Just never at peak Christmas time.
You passed through my little Hamlet on your way home,
Hope you enjoy the forum and thanks for sharing that great intro we us.Enjoy!

PUR4IT Supercharger
Hi,
Talk about speaking too soon!!!
Aaaagh!! Threw supercharger belt ....thankfully since getting home....only to find that shaft at front of supercharger has seized...hence throwing belt.
Anyone know where I can source an E90 Eaton Supercharger for a 1997 X300 XJR (6)?
All and any replies greatly appreciated
thanks

Greg,
At least you got home!
I've removed your telephone number and eMail address from post #9. It's never a good idea to post personal information on a public forum. The webcrawlers soon pick up on these details and you'll be inundated with sales calls and spam.
Anyone can respond to your post or PM you with information on S/C sources.

Nice long run. I did about 4,000km in an S2 XJ6 a couple of years back. Melbourne to Adelaide in bitumen in a day, then up to Uluru before heading out to Fremantle on the dirt and mud. 'Mostly' trouble free - ignition relay died on the first night requiring a crude hotwiring in the enginebay for the starter, rearview mirror fell off, dizzy cap and passenger front seatbelt died in the first 50km of dirt, rebuilt the carbies in camp one night due to one of the chokes sticking open (as a result 20L/100km for the rest f the trip) and by the last day we were using a pump full of power steering fluid every 200km, so not too bad for a car low enough that it bottoms out on big bumps on bitumen...

Another to try is Jagdaim in Melbourne.

I did a 1300 km round trip in my ageing XJ6 last week, never lifted the bonnet. Took my 3 year old Jeep up the beach for a few days this week, I don't trust it yet so had to check it's vital signs and fluids every day.(it took 500mls of coolant when we got home). But I did let the "eldest" drive it home(150km) towing 2 tonne of camper trailer and gear and she has never towed or driven that car before and mashed the peddle all the way so it was pulling 5k+ Rpm on a lot of the hills, good reason to lose a bit of coolant I guess.
She averaged 17.3 L/100km coming home. I averaged 14.1 going up and got there 35 minutes faster. All comes down to hours behind the wheel I guess.
