Hi Pete,
We were all in the same row!
Tony and I were facing off against the Mk2's.
I was down nearer the E Types though.
Yeah that XJR15!
I listened to some of Roddy juniors talk.
The car had the factory fitted racing gearbox, not the road going one which you would think that it would have.
A great day out and well organized.
Cheers,
Nigel

A pretty amazing beast. Watched it being loaded (very carefully) into the transporter at the end of the day.

You and me both. Severely under priced. The amount he'd (over) spent on it was eye watering!

I spent a fair bit of time talking to the owner , David.
I reckon basically , it's had a full mechanical and suspension rebuild since he owned it.
If not , I'm sure he at least said; full engine rebuild , transmission rebuild and full suspension ( front to rear ) rebuild.
As I said to David , I'd love to have taken it home but doing that would have meant sleeping in it
Personally , I don't see the issue with owning 4 cars ( not including SWMBO's) and bringing a fifth stray home
Do you?

We had a codgers convoy to the Melbourne Shannons Auction last night , there were many opportunities there if you arent limited to mainstream Holden/Falcon/US mainstream cars.
At one end of the spectrum Porsche, Daimlers, Mercs and Jags were cheap as chips mostly less than $10k. Really liked a late 50s merc that only went for $7500
Mercedes-Benz 220A Saloon Auctions - Lot 31 - Shannons
Stars of the show were licence plates (!?) going for anything between $10k and $140k which to me is obscene. I dont even see the sense on $600 vanity plates on cars so I clearly just dont get it.
Highest car not passed in was a Kombi Van that went for $158k. So if you have an early model Kombi your looking good. Lots of support for local muscle cars with Monaros and GT Falcons doing quite well.
Was my first event and was really impressed with the auctioneers. After watching Mecum in the US on TV and having to mute the babbling auctioneers drone that seems to be the way over there, it was good to see the auctioneer actually engaging the audience and using a lot of humour during the night. Made the whole thing a bit of fun and not just a series of transactions.
There was a funny moment when the auctioneer stopped the auction when a guy bidding $75k on a lovely old RR asked if he actually could see the car. He had arrived late and was only bidding because his wife like the picture (!@#!!) He gave him a moment to trundle down the front while cracking car guys wife jokes and supporting his idea that its worth actually seeing what you are bidding $70k+ on.

I'd have no issues at all, but I know someone who might...

Crazy stuff. But I reckon often bought as investments. Like some art works - you don't like them, or want them hanging on your walls, you just dust them off after a year or three then back to the auction hoping they've increased in value.

Then there is the later 70's one under the tree and another kombi(red) in the process of being restored plus the sons beetle he has been driving since the mid 90's.

He was a VW dealer mechanic his whole working life, bought the Kombi and Beetle new when he was an apprentice in the late 60's. VW mad and never owned anything different until his wife bought a Camry when she retired.
With 6 still remaining he is sitting on a gold mine. Two totatally original Kombi's and 3 beetles more or less unmolestered except for the engine dept.

I'm sure his fleet will remain as long as he has two feet on the ground.
