Hi to all you good Jaguar owners,Peter here from the Gippsland resort of Metung.
I am new to THIS COMPUTER AGE so excuse any co**ups,a dinosuar in training.
I find Herb and the guys at Graham Ratcliff Motors and the "Aladdins cave"Jagspares, have been very honest in their help, advice and service provided to my self and my 1990 xj-40, Regency Red ,Sovereign, that I have owned for the last four years and have had serviced with them for this period.
It may seem a bit crazy going hundreds of kilometers for someone to do my servicing ,but they are very good, and a lot of the time when I have a problem with the car a phone call to Herb usually gives me the step by step method of fixing said problem myself and saves the cost of along (but comfortable drive) to Ringwood..also Marty and the spares guys will have apart for me in the mail before I but down the phone(next day delivery). Can't say more.
I am not a "mechanic" just a hands on "MR" fix-it,read how to it,then do it(it some times works out in the end"being retired helps don't need to rush even if I could. This has taken an hour to type electric storm keeps wipeing me out.
So I will see some of you on the road some time ,Be Safe ,Be Happy in your Jags.sja@iinet.net.au
My S-type which I sold last week with over 415,000km on the clock was maintained for the last 8 years by:
Rick Rankin of Broadlands Automotive in Bairnsdale Victoria.
I was recommended to him when I lived in Bairnsdale. Even though I have moved and it is 100km to Bairnsdale now, I would not even consider taking my XKR ant where else.
Guy.
Good to hear mate. I like their old fashioned style garage and Herb's hands-on personal service. They get to know your car, and they remember your name! Rare these days.
Finally decided to do something "proper" with my aircon, and put in some technology from this century rather than throw money at old stuff. Use Mideast Air Conditioning and Radiators in Nunawading.
Did a nice just job with a changeover to a Sanden compressor, with new everything from the firewall forward. Works very well, if the drive home is any indication.
Thought I would give these guys a plug. We have 5 cars from different manufacturers, so I have a lot of diversity in oil, fuel, air and cabin filters and other consumable bits.
These guys run a great online business out of Gippsland VIC and I have used them for the last 4 years . The website to find parts is comprehensive (if not always fast) and most importantly the service and communication is great. Yesterday I stuffed up an order and the way they sorted it out is what prompted this post. Have look:
Great thread, Yarpos . Although Ive only used them for parts, I'd also throw in that Jagadiam in Moorabbin have alway been very helpful and great for advice. I've also heard lots of positive things about Ratcliffs in Ringwood.
If you wanted to start a thread on Bad experiences with Jag Mechanics, I could think of at least one to stay away from but that would be another story.
Sometimes you find out more about an organisation by how they respond when things go wrong.
A year or so ago Tankards Panel Service in Ringwood removed the front and rear screens to check and repair any classic S3 rust and update the headliner.
Recently a flaw in the paintwork developed where a small section raised and had a crack in it (about 1cm) Tankards have a lifetime warranty on work so I raised the issue with them. They acknowledged it straight away and suspected surface moisture in the prep phase. Took a little while to get the car into their workstream but once in they resolved the issue. Nice to work with a place that stands by their work. I wont be looking for an alternative paint / repair place anytime soon.
