Tassie ... am I dreaming
I would like to find out of there is any interest in an event going to Tasmania for say 7 to 10 days. Setting aside reality of difficulty with timings , would you be interested??
Thinking of something like :
Assemble and travel over on the ferry, travel independently in Tas (depending on your interests) with just a couple of scheduled meet ups for lunch to share adventures and maybe meet our Tassie members, meet up on the final day to travel back on the ferry.
Would probably try and avoid school holidays
Targa Tasmania 2016 April 11-16 ........ just sayin.
PS: members from other regions who would like to join us in the beautiful south are most welcome to register an interest

Can't promise anything, but we do have to see Tasmania some time. Our only problem is her indoors works in a school. But our holidays are just before yours(except Christmas holidays which are the same everywhere).
I have said before on these forums I would drive Fireball to Tasmania tomorrow without lifting the bonnet to check anything( because it would have been lifted in the last week and all vital signs checked).
We are on holidays from April 3 until April 19, same as Tasmania. So Targa is smack bang in the middle of school holidays.
I will watch this thread with interest.

Tassie is a great place, compact and quite varied. Hope you can get there with us or some other time. Been there are few times fly drive style and one of life's great disappointments is to find yourself on some of their brilliant roads in a rental Nissan Tiida or in the early days a first generation Hyundai Grandeur that just wanted to fold its outside front wheel under the car on every corner.

The only way I will see Tasmania is in my own car.
I hate waiting for public transport, and dislike rental cars even more.
I drove to Melbourne sept 2013 while the wife and kids flew down because I (being selfish of course, wanted my own car to drive around Phillip Is GP circuit on an open day) so the old Jeep did Bathurst, Phillip Is, Lake side, Amaroo, Eastern Creek and Winton. Not many 4x4's have cut hot laps of all those tracks. Simmons plains here I come. .....great 3 days travelling on my own and a couple of overnight stays with old mates ( I hadn't seen since the 90's)made the trip a pleasure.
As I said, I will follow this thread with interest.

Interested? Rock on! In my head I'm already there...
However, ability to commit is uncertain in the near future since our canine family member has just been diagnosed with diabetes. Still getting our heads around fitting twice daily injections, rigid meals regime etc. into our suddenly restricted lifestyle!
Later in the year would probably be more feasible for us once she's stabilized enough either to travel, or be left home in care (ie. spring / early summer). So if not this time around, maybe next...

I'm think a long way ahead and I doubt that any trip I am on will happen this year. At the moment we have moved the mother in law from Sydney to a nearby major town (where I live doesnt count as a town as we dont have a pub) and will be building a house there for her. I'm not counting on much spare time in 2015 once we get her organised (!@@#$) and build a house and move her again.
So if I appear even a little more unhinged at our runs this year this will be another layer of explanation.

QUOTE=jagent;1144611]Maybe build the pub first Steve?
Yeah, I read April & Targa, and missed the 2016 reference. Thought it sounded a tad ambitious!

Steve, I missed the 2016 reference as well. April next year will be a lot easier to get the head around.
I was lying in bed last night thinking of all the scenarios so we could get there. An extra year in planning is perfect as we should both have long service leave (if our jobs don't go away) , both kids out of school and uni. Both driving there own cars and they can look after the dog and house. No school fees to pay.

2016? Don't think I can wait that long!
I have done two trips to Tassie, both in my own car for the same reasons cited by others. 1st time was 1 week around Launceston and the north, north west and north east in 2009. 2nd time was 2 weeks in a full lap around the coastal roads in 2011, or as close as we could get on bitumen. Took the GoPro camera as well and have lots of footage of the boring and fun bits. Family at Tewkesbury, so that will have to be on my route somewhere.
Not interested in doing Symmons Plains though. Will come and watch though!

Thanks for your interest , I thought this idea was a dead duck.
2016 is just the first time I can go, this year is booked for me. Yep Tassie is a nice break, weve been fly/driving and on the ferry. Havent been on the current boat though, the old one was the one that converted us to fly drive. It was a bit tired and dowdy when we did the trip, and we had a 90 min breakdown in mid Bass Strait just bobbing around not making way. Luckily it was relatively calm.

Sounds like a good trip Steve but I can't commit at that time of year.
As for the new boat, we were on it over xmas and most of it is flasher than the old one.
If your going over night (as we did) the cabins are small but in good condition and the common lower level areas are fine. The upper decks are a bit worn but virtually empty on a night time crossing.
