Hiya Itchy. Like you I found the styling an acquired taste when I first saw it advertised (Gumtree?). Some will love its unique styling . . . others will hate it as a travesty of the original. My interest centred on the economics . . . a HUGELY expensive exercise in what looks like well executed metal panel work and excellent finish . . . now being handsomely rewarded by an asking price of what? . . . $4500. My blokes wouldn't look at just the finishing paint job for twice that!
I'm not suggesting my life-long love affair with Jaguars is dictated by "investment" decisions . . . each of mine has lots of emotional connection. However, I find myself facing these challenges with each Jaguar . . . when to go with a full budget professional task; when to DIY. The danger of spending $20K on a car (let's say a tired but generally good XJ6 you've bought for $3K) to end up with an immaculate Jag that MIGHT bring $8K-$10K . . . or might not.
Many of our US members report heavily modded Jaguars bring a serious premium at resale, but here's more evidence that the opposite seems true in Oz. Here, HUGE premiums seem to flow from originality, provenance, full uninterrupted service history and impeccable original presentation . . . mods, even less than the extreme offered here, all seem to reduce value.
What do others believe?
Cheers,
Ken
