Default importing into Canada

Hello,

Well I've found the perfect Jaguar. It's everything I wanted and even the price is right. Problem is the vehicle is in the US and I'm in Canada! I don't have the time to fly down and drive it back and I am unsure of the companies that advertise on the web for transport. If any of you have experience, help would be appreciated. Plus I have a few questions.
1. anyone used or heard of uscanadaautotransport.com ?
they seem like decent guys but who can tell?
2. is $2000 reasonable for a 1600 Km transport?

I'm concerned that if I wire transfer the dealer the entire price of the car. then $2000 for transport and another $2000 for taxes and import fees then sit in my garage for a car that never comes?

Seems a bit high, I've not shipped to Canada but I have within the states, it was under $500 from Ontario California to Phoenix. Shipping is really popular in California because you have to pay state sales tax if you drive it off the lot.

I've a number of friends who've shipped cars to Canada and the number has generally been less than $1000 by recollection. I'd suggest getting the dealer to arrange shipping...kinda late if you've already negotiated, but by doing so they have an incentive to get 'their guys' to give them a deal as opposed to being a nobody to the shipper when it comes to pricing. The dealer is the easiest place to do it, I got ran around and had wild quotes from the guys I contact when I shipped.

The first car I imported I shared your concern about being ripped off, so much so that I flew down to verify the car and see the dealership in person. If you've got some confidence in the dealer I wouldn't sweat it, it seems every dealer you go to does a lot of shipping and remote dealing with people they've never met. Its just part of how they move cars.

Dealer turned out not to be much help, he sold it to someone else while I learned how to import cars. At least I got an education so when the next right one comes along I will be ready. if anyone is looking for me I will be sitting in my empty, temperature, and humidity controlled garage looking for that bottle of single malt I got for my birthday.

At least you're all set for the bureaucracy when you find the next one.

Enjoy the Malt.

Put it on the train to your nearest border town then go over and drive it home
