Hi all,
I'm seeking advice on whether it would be worth bringing my XJ8 (2001, model X308) Sovereign to Canada.
We are immigrating to Nova Scotia in the near future and I need to decide what to do with my car.
I have owned this car since 2014 and still use it on a daily basis. Besides of some rusty bits in the usual corners, the car is in good condition, the 4 liter V8 engine has had all chains and tensioners replaced and runs like a dream. On long stretches (recently drove from London to Berlin) I get 32 mpg at modest speeds (80 to 90 mph).
I have no idea how much the tax and insurance would be or whether I would even be allowed to drive it given the steering wheel is on the right hand side.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

There are RHD cars on the roads in Canada, at least on the west coast, most from Japan. It is important to note that while importation is a federal Canadian matter, the registration and insurance are in the provincial domain. Since I am writing from British Columbia, I cannot comment on the insurance and registration costs in Nova Scotia…which is on the other side of the continent. Unless you are moving to Halifax you may not see many Jaguars on the road there. Can it be imported? Almost certainly. Is it worth the effort? Only you can decide.

 

Not worth it. You can likely find a Canadian spec car in much better condition. Canada is the land of snow and ice, lots of “never seen winter” old jags to be had.
