Default Question for Dave!

Hey Dave,

Just a quick questions.

Is using an electric leaf blower to dry your car bad for it?

Mine is rated at 160 MPH I believe, but I do keep some distance from the tip of it to my car.

I've used it for a while, but some one that took a dent out of my car told me that it drys up the paint and is bad for it.

I thought I would ask another detailer.

Any others feel free to give me advice.

Thanks!

Can't offer advice, but good question.

(Just one observation, my old blower would also suck, don't know if yours can do the same, but if it can, then I would be very very careful about how clean it is internally before shot blasting the Jag).

Actually I just bought one of those, but that one will not be used for the Jag. I have a seperate one dedicated to drying it off.

Using an electric leaf blower is perfectly fine, for over 24 years in my mobile service we have used them. I would just recommend keeping a safe distance from the paintwork and put some kind of protection on the tip of the blower to prevent it from scuffing or scratching the paint. The unit I have is a Toro 120V that is lightweight and 2 speed, purchased at Lowes

I would recommend staying away from dual purpose blower/vac's. Since debris is being introduced and sucked in, it could blow out and damage the paint or body. Not a good idea, keep a designated tool for it's primary use only to avoid damage.

Huh?! A leaf blower dries out the paint? And what does driving around at 60 or 70 mph or more do? That one doesn't make sense to me.

It didn't make sense to me either... but lets be realistic the winds coming out of my leaf blower are 160 MPH + not exactly your typical freeway cruise. So I just decided to play it safe and ask the detailer himself.
