I need to replace the front shocks on my car. I see three manufacturers's products available - Boge, which are half the price of Gaz, which are half the price of the Koni.
Can anyone explain the relative merits of each?
I'm continuing to rebuild my car, and, once ready for the road again, won't be racing it, and, probably, won't be putting a lot of miles on it, so which would be the best shocks for me to fit?

A lot depends on where the units are actually made, as Far East stuff tends to cost a helluva lot less. Units made in Europe will be expensive. Some shocks are adjustable too, so this adds cost on. Then there is what the manufacturer hopes he can get for them.
Main thing is to fit a recommended brand, not Jo Noname, so any of these should be OK for a limited use car.

As you can see, the cheapest shocks, Boge, are a ZF subsidiary, one of the largest auto parts makers in Europe.
The of course, there is Bilstein. I have a set of these on my 2009 MG TF. Very good quality but they may not make a shock to fit the E-type

Hi Rob,
I chose the Boge shock - I only changed the front shocks. I bought it from SNG Barratt. It was by far the least expensive (US$43.11 each back in 2016). I drive my car infrequently, and it is off the road more than on at the moment as I slowly restore it a bit at a time. So the less expensive option was the best for me. Having said that, the car rides fine with these shocks for the driving that I do.
Stuart.
