I have used borg-warner T5 5 speeds in many conversions and found them quiet, tough, and reliable. I just built 375 horse 302 ford in a Triumph TR6
with a T5 and it is excellent. Just make sure you get the RIGHT T5, it is called the world-class model it can be recognized by the machined front bearing when viewed from the front (as opposed to a tin bearing cover). There are many web sites that describe what "numbers" on the trans are the desirable ones to identify the right T5. Many Cobras use T5s and they have a lot more horse power than an XKE. This transmission also has the advantage of about 1/2 the weight of the jag 4 speed and less than the cost of other 5 speeds. and..........(just in case you thought I was done) These T5s have almost the same ratios as the Jag.

Hi Bill, I have the sister car to prettygirl69, same everything. I'm very interested to hear how the installation goes and how you like the new 5 speed. I'm thinking about having a 5 speed installed in mine to make freeway driving more relaxed and slicker changes. My gearbox has presumably been rebuilt by the PO but it hard to select first gear when the car has been standing at the lights and in neutral. It's almost like the teeth are in line and not allowing them to engage. Even slipping into second doesn't always help. Otherwise it's fine.
How much was the 5 speed and how much for the install? I'm assuming around $10k total.
Thanks Andy

T5 is "bullletproof", especially at these relatively low torque ratings, compared to a supercharged Ford V8....You will find that if you have the 3;54 rear end, first gear is very short duration...You will not need it very much....Second gear will blow you away...5th gear is so relaxed, you will wonder if the car is running.
