Hi jagal ... greetings from Australia where, after 35+ years our love affair with our Series1 4.2L FHC saw it move on to new owners. I won't waste time waxing lyrical about this road beastie ... just this, which if you are considering a racing outcome, deserves special consideration in your restoration. Like you, we were at one stage, offered an E-Type "tub", around which we considered building a modded lightweight to join our historic racing team.
There is (or was) a small company down in southern UK which, having built its panel and body fittings rep around the MG marque, then turned to the E-Type. Unfortunately, I now have no details as to the name of the company ... my inquiries were of 10-12 years ago ... but it was a smaller family business, then advertising in the UK and Australian Jaguar Owners Club member magazines. It was not the group now associated with the Eagle Speedster.
I remember it for a major reason ... complete bonnet, doors, and rear hatch were all being pressed and for sale in either steel, stainless, or alloy ... and for open class historic racing out here, weight saving was always of major importance. Beyond those options, this firm also offered an array of floor, sill and other body parts but only available in steel. If interested, I suggest you google or seek out some pre-2000 JDC mags to look for advertisers. Prices seemed quite reasonable at the time ... but freight to me in Australia was the deal-breaker.
I wish I could be more precise but their name escapes me entirely. Anyway, I hope that knowledge of their existence may be of help, and wish you every success with your project.
Best wishes,
Ken

Martin Robey in Nuneaton do a lot of E-type panels. They even supply complete shells, and will also rebuild a shell supplied to them. All at a price, of course !
