66 XKE FHC Gas pedal assembly
Hi all- I could use a little help. I am beginning to reassemble my car after new floor, sills etc. I got the car back in pieces and am attempting to reinstall the gas pedal assembly. Since I was not the one who took it apart and some time has passed since I got it back, I'm stymied on how to reattach the pedal assembly to the linkage. This is hard for me to explain but here goes: Up under the dash, in the housing that the steering column goes through is where the linkage from the gas pedal attaches. Do I remove the bolt and nut on the engine bay side or is there a way to make the connection without removing the bolt? You guys have been great in the past. I'm hoping you'll go easy on me, its been a while since I've worked on the car.

For linkages, the Parts Catalogue is often more helpful for illustrations of the layout than the Workshop Manual.

If you don't have the Workshop Manual or the Parts Catalogue for your model, they are available to download from the download thread in General Tech Help:

I'm just doing the gas pedal mechanism in my 69 Coupe at the moment, which is very similar except for the return spring which on the 69 is inside the housing.
You need to remove the 3/8" nut and bolt from inside the engine bay and the horizontal lever in the engine bay will come out with a bushing. The engine bay lever has a half moon boss on it and the lever inside the car also has a half moon boss which when assembled correctly interface with each other and move the carb linkage. The 3/8" bolt holds it all together. You will need an assistant inside the car to offer up the inside lever as you try and thread the bolt through both holes and the spacer goes on the outside. You should use a nyloc nut on the 3/8" bolt so you can tighten it and still have free movement. Hope this helps.
