Default 68 XKE OTS Color Question

Hi All,

I am currently repainting and redoing the interior on my 68 XkE OTS 1E 16548. I have two questions:

1. Does anyone have the color code for the Dark BRG. and

2. The Heritage certificate says BRG exterior with Black Interior Trim, but all the books say that Black was not an option for interior for 68 OTS. I am going with the Heritage certificate but does that mean the books are wrong?

Thanks

BRG (British Racing Green) must be the most difficult colour to pin down. Aston Martin, Bentley and Jaguar all raced and sold BRG cars and they were all different shades!

I remember reading Jaguar alone used five different shades of BRG.

There's a UK supplier specialises in 'vintage' paint colours:

Jaguar Classic Vintage Car Paint Cellulose Codes Colours

In the Product Description section of their website is the following:

"If you need to find the car paint colour code for your vintage or classic Jaguar you may find it in the table below. Autopaints Brighton has a record of the majority of original paint and colour codes for cars and commercial vehicles manufactured since 1945. Our technical department can research and provide you with the correct paint colour code for most vintage or classic vehicle restoration projects as they keep archived documents relating to all vehicle paint colours from 1945 and if yours is not listed please call us on 01273 326981 or email us at autopaintsbrighton@btconnect.comThe service is totally FREE, but ask that you allow up to 3 working days for us to research your code."

It could be worth an email asking them for the code(s).

Just sent buddyluv the DuPont numbers from 68-70 there was no BRG listed from 68-69 but 70 had a BRG. The colour catalogue was from 1972.

Is the red e-type in picture same car? If so nice to know it is going back to original. If you can not pin point the correct color code (there are no tags on the e-types) my advice would be to do some excavating. possibly under the gas door or behind the gauge panel, under door panels and match the color found, it is not easy but chase is the fun part. If you need any info on your car I have a fairly original 1.5 1E16864. Any chance you still have original handbook and maintenance chart?

It is the same car, and behind the switch panel there is BRG, just trying to get the color code to match it. Wish I had the original manuals but I don't. Thanks for your ideas.

Paint suppliers in the UK have a clever handheld device that analyses the colour on a panel for an exact match. The same must be available in the US?

It takes all the guesswork out of colour matching.
