Alternator upgrade suggestions

Alternator upgrade suggestions
I am working on a 1970 4.2 Series 2 FHC right hand drive. The alternator wiring is very aged. I ordered a replacement harness from a supplier, but it did not match the harness on the car. The harness on the car does not match the alternator plugs. I am new to the Jaguar world and would like to know if I am better off upgrading to something with newer technology. My customer wants to have a reliable driver. Thank you for any help. I attempted to search the forum and did not find a discussion about this topic.

Wow! There is a wealth of information on that site! I was also looking for a better wiring schematic than the one I had purchased. This site has a couple different schematics! I really appreciate the suggestion. I was hoping to purchase an alternator upgrade "kit", but if not I can use the information on this site.

The Bosch conversion was my old favorite. This is my current favorite for S2's. It's close to a universal solution for all alternator projects:

Thank you for the link. The Mercury Marine alternator sounds like a good option. The photos in the article show it reverse mounted in front of the engine. Mine is mounted just in front of the exhaust manifold. I read somewhere else that an alternator with an adjusting ear at 12 o'clock will hit the hood on my application. Do you happen to have any photos of this installed on a application like mine? I really appreciate the help!
