Default Brake problem

I have a 1967 OTS vin # 1E14500 and something has failed in the braking system. Suddenly the brake pedal has become hard and the braking much less effective.
interestingly, though I have a 4.2 litre, the braking system is clearly that of an early 3.8 litre car with the 2 master cylinders one each for the front and rear.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Greg67OTS

Sounds like a servo issue. On mine, the rubber pipe to the servo had rotted and become clogged inside - looked fine on the outside! New pipe fixed it. Maybe worth looking at that before more expensive options.

Sounds like the servo to me as well but it could be that one of the 3 flexible rubber brake hoses are collapsing inside even though they look okay on the outside or possibly a seized rear caliper. Never saw a 4.2 with the old style master cylinders, even the 3.8 servo was different.

Press on the brake pedal when you start the car. The pedal will be hard, then as the servo starts acting, there will be further pedal movement. If none, then its related to the servo.

you were right on the money. It was a faulty servo. Thanks to you and all the others who pitched in to help me.
