Hi,
I hope this is a simple question. In order to drop down the center console with the gauges and switches in order to get to the fuses, there is a screw at the upper left and one at the upper right corner that must be unscrewed. Is that all, or in addition to that, does one need to remover the plastic bar that is part of the center console that identifies what each switch is, e.g., wiper, washer, map light, etc.
My car is an August 1966 build, US model year, 1967.
Thank you.
John

Hi John,
All you need to do is unscrew the 2 screws at the upper left and right if everything is perfect. But being that these car are now 50/60 years old things change, things bend, poorly reassembled etc. You may have to remove the radio console to open the flip down panel. The transmission cover/center console maybe pushing up on the radio console preventing the flip down panel from opening. It will probably take some messing around with the transmission cover, center console, pushing down the radio console while installing it, leaving out the rubber strip for the plastic ID strip and adjusting the flip down panel hinge.
Hope this helps.

After removing the two thumbscrews, CAREFULLY lower the panel while watching the clearance at the lower edge. The strip can be broken if it is forced. Some cars will have sufficient clearance, some require the plastic strip to be removed. If the console is sitting higher than original then more will need to be done.
