E-brake caliper removal

E-brake caliper removal
I have a '65 FHC and want to remove the e-brake calipers to install new pads.
Is it possible to remove each caliper without dropping the entire rear suspension? My Haynes manual states somewhat vaguely that on "some models" this must be done.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

look behind the seats under the carpet and there are two access panels to get access to the brake pads and E brake pads. It might be easier to remove the seats to avoid holding a yoga position while working on them. I had issues with my differential so I waited until I removed the IRS to work on the brakes.

Not all E-Types have the access panels but I don't know when theywere discontinued. Mine doesn't have them. I overlooked the 'e' before 'brake'. Thought it was just a typo but have now been educated that it means 'emergency'. Best of British luck if you think that will stop you in an emergency.
However I found this article on the web -
Replace Handbrake Pads on a Jaguar E-Type Without Removing Subframe
I haven't done this myself so can't vouch for it.

Hi Bill,
I did my rear brakes a long time ago and I really don't remember the sequence. But I can tell you that I followed a YouTube video to get it done. Do a search on YouTube for jaguar E-type rear brake rebuild or reared rebuild. There will be plenty of different videos showing how its done and the proper sequence.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
Bill.

The access panels are only present on long wheelbase cars starting with S2. Pads can be replaced without removing the rear axle or handbrake mechanism on most models. Easiest access is on later LWB cars, the pads can be changed from inside the car. Early S1 2+2's are the hardest, and pretty much require the axle to be dropped.
