e-type feels like running out of gas
Just joined the forum and need some help. I have a 69 e-type that had a nut and bolt frame off resto about ten years ago. So far, just a few problems. However, last summer, at times, it was hard starting. When it finally did, the idle was low possibly indicating a problem with the choke. I first checked the fluid in the carbs and it was very low. I filled them up, but the problem still exists. The other issue is when I'm driving it. Twice when I was out on a long run, it started acting like it was running out of gas when it had a full tank. Eventually it would get going again but now I hesitate to take it very far. Unfortunately I can't get at the fuel pump as the trunk latch won't release all the way as I thought tapping the fuel pump with a screwdriver may help. I have tried in vein to get the trunk open..Anybody have any similar problems? any solutions? I'm staring at about 3-4 feet of snow outside and need something to look forward to like again cruising my Jag!
THANKS!
THANKS!

Of course, the fuel pump would be the first suspect, but the low fuel in the bowls, may indicate that the floats are out of adjustment...
You can disconnect the fuel line ,(from the filter bowl to the carbs), and run it into a glass jar...Turn on the pump, and see how quickly the jar fills with gas....If it sort of dribbles out, then the pump is the problem...
Obviously , you will need someone else to shut the ignition off, if the jar fills quickly.
