Default E Type Series III Windscreen Fitment

Hi! I am a new member and have a question about my '73 E Series III Roadster. I had a chip in the original windscreen so purchased a replacement to repair. Problem is, new one doesn't fit. Old one was PILKINGTON SHATTERPRUFF SAFETY GLASS (PTY) LTD (DOT122) and (I believe) original. New one is too short across the top cord dimension so the cap trim doesn't line up with the post screws when seated. Does anyone have experience with this issue? I've been muddling through for about 8 months now and have gotten exactly nowhere.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Mutley

Here I am again. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I am having difficulty finding a windscreen to fit my E type Series III roadster and my car is the problem and that the replacement windscreen is "to spec." Does anyone have the specs for a E type Series III roadster windscreen? The problem is that the trim piece at the top (chrome) is too long for the new windscreen. I can find no specs which say how long the windscreen should be on the top 'chord.'

Hi Muley,
I would contact these people (copied from their website):

Pilkington Classics - The right choice in auto replacement glass

Classic Fit. Classic Style. Classic Quality.

To keep your classic car, truck or exotic automobile looking its best, turn to Pilkington Classics. We can supply you with the OEM quality auto replacement glass you need. Plus, you can order it complete with the original LOF sandblasted logo and date coding.

To discuss how we can fit your auto glass needs, please call us toll-free at 1-800-848-1351.

I wonder if the 2+2 and the OTS have different windshields and maybe you have a 2+2 windshield.

Bob,

Thanks again for help and response. I ordered the catalog. Do you have a go-to vendor for misc. parts? I am about done with SNG Barratt, but cannot find a good supplier for the usual parts. Again, thank you!

As fate would have it, I just pulled the factory windscreen out of my 71 Series 3 2+2 yesterday.
What measurement do you need?

I also just opened up the parts PDFs for the 2+2 and Roadster.
for the 2+2

For the Roadster

That's terrific! Measure the top edge of the windscreen (corners are slightly rounded, so to the middle of the rounded corner). What I did, since it's not a straight line, is taped a piece of string along the top edge and marked it. Then laid against a tape and measured the delta of the marks. Mine measures 49 1/2. Thank you!!

Apparently image pasting causes a lot of grief.

I also just opened up the parts PDFs for the 2+2 and Roadster.
for the Roadster the windscreen part# is BD37953
for the 2+2 the windscreen part# is BD38061

Default Still Wandering

So, to all of those who have helped and made suggestions, thank you. I wanted to post an update of my progress. I found a really helpful person at XK Unlimited. He was kind enough to measure some windscreens and ask some questions of fellow restorers.

This is the mark on the new windscreen that didn't fit.

This is the windscreen on the one that was in my car (chipped).
The problem is the top dimension. The XK Unlimited windscreen has the same label as the one i bought that didn't fit and has the same top measurement as the failed windscreen as well. It looks as though there are multiple dimensions for the top edge from the same manufacturer (albeit different factories). Has anyone had a similar experience in fitting new windscreen's on a E-Type Series III Roadster?
I am also following leads with Pilkington Glass who appear very cooperative as well.
