Hand Brake calipers

When I assembled mine, way back in the late 80s, I made sure I put a bit of copper grease on the caliper securing pins. The pad retainers pivot on these but there is no means of lubricating them when the caliper is assembled. The adjuster nut on the handbrake adjustment bolt also needs lubing so the pawl can turn it easily and hence adjust the caliper.
There may be more modern lubes available that are better in staying as lube in this quite harsh environment.

The mechanism is common to many Jaguar models, from Series 1 E-Type through pre facelift XJ-S. (Not everything is interchangeable though but the basic design is the same.) There's a few how to videos on YT to supplement the workshop manual and illustrated parts manual - I found an XJ-S video that was helpful to remind me how to put the XKE springs and clips in the right way. Its a satisfying DIY project. Hardest part is getting to the handbrake caliper and removing it from the IRS cage.
