BigB301 here hailing from NYC. I just purchased my childhood dream car, a 1972 XKE V12 Roadster that has been completely restored as a driver. Due to crappy weather in the Northeast I've only had the opportunity to take it out twice for about 40 miles, pretty exciting! The interior was left original and I'm not crazy about the steering wheel, I need a better grip and was wondering if a Series 1 steering wheel would fit on a Series III? Here are a few pics om my ride...
Congrats. Beautiful car, I prefer those small bumpers on the early series 3. We have snow squalls today and 6-8" forecast overnight, so no fun driving here either.
Yes, Lily is my Lucas special, when I got her she had a bad smoking habit... from behind the dash! You might want to do a check on the fuses back there as well. They tend to corrode over time, heat up and melt the fuse blocks. I bought a laser temp probe and checked all the wires and connections back there, and coming out of the ignition. Anything above ambient temp will indicate a poor connection.
Let's hope the weather warms up again soon.
Welcome mate. Good advice regarding the smoking fuse comments. While, in there check all of the connections. Any signs of loose connections breeds a failure.
HappY Trails....
Thanks for the advice guys but no one has answered my question about the interchangeability of steering wheels, but I think the answer is yes they are?

Hello BigB301,
Yes they are. The Spline size and the collet taper size are the same.
Stunning car! Looks beautiful, thank you for sharing.
Feel free to call us in regards to the steering wheel, and any other parts you require. We also have a free of charge parts book for this model which we can send to you.
Hey SNG thanks. I found a parts catalogue on your website that I downloaded, is it different from what you are offering me? I do plan to get in touch with you, if only the weekend weather would clear up and I can get this baby out on the open road. Right now I have some ideas but after a summer of driving I'll know more. Do you have 7" Lucas sealed beams, one of mine has no low beam, I should probably change as a pair.

It's the same book, we do offer it as a hard copy as well which can be sent at no cost. The headlamp units we have a few options, original style lucas units at $41.25 each or upgrade H4 style bulbs (non lucas).
Thanks Johns427, I did the same thing!! So, on saturday my ORIGINAL ignition switch decided to blow apart at a most inopportune time of course but my mechanic was able to put humpty dumpty back together again better than new. Apparently there's a clip in the back of it holding everything together that failed after 44 years. He tells me ain't ever gonna happen again!
BigB , Its GTJOEY from Long Island, stop by anytime......Ive owned my etype for 30 years..I drive it every year to the Indy500, Florida and back. I'm always driving. Yes the wheel can interchange, but they make smaller wheels that look factory if you gained weight or don't have power steering. Good luck!
