I have a 4.2 engine apparently from an e-type. Engine number 7R8909-9. Is there a database of engine numbers and the car it was originally from? Thanks. Bob

Hi RDSSDI,
Sorry but Jaguar did not keep the engines and car in order, So say you had car the first car it doesn't mean that you would have engine 7R8001-9. That engine could have been in the repair line and you ended up with engine 7R8010-8. What ever engine showed up at the line is the engine they put in. Or say you had car #100 you could get engine 7R8001-9. One of the older books by Dr Tom Haddock had a plot of engine VS body number and instead of it being a straight line it looked like a scatter plot. You can look at the XKE data base and guess, but there is no guarantee you'll find the right car. XKEDATA.COM

I hope this helped,
Bob
