Default lwering RPM's

Hello Gentlemen, I own a 1966 XKE 4.2 roadster, Once again I want to have installed different differential gears to reduce my rpm's. I had this done about ten years ago with a 1969 series coupe, since than I have forgotten what was done. This change had a reduction of over 900 rpms giving a higher top in and lower engine temp. I believe it was a 2:88 ratio from another jaguar, I believe it was a auto trans.. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

This might point you in the right direction:

For some reason, the link does not work. Here's the text from there:

IMHO, Nothing comes near the 3 08, even if you swap to a 5 speed. Have done both. I tried the 2 88 as my friends, the gearing is a dog off the line, so much so, its to me dangerous with a 4 speed car. Also when shifting from 3 to 4 th it almost bogs the revs don't keep up.
Again, IMHO and you know what that means.......
My 1970 triple su, electronic ignition, Dayton 6 inch off sets, and a later xjs VENTED 3 08 rear will convert your car into a wonderful GT .
Your gas mileage will hang around 28 mpg if tuned right. Oh yes the gm one wire alternator as well
You will not regret the 3 08.....the 3 54 is horrible .once you switch you will see.
Goog luck , need any help just pm....I average 6,000 miles every year in my 70, see you at Indy, Daytona or Import Carlisle.

Mike I also have the triple SU set up on my 69 FHC and the cars accelerates like crazy and I love it. I also have the stock 3.54 and would love to convert to the 3.08 rear end. Can you give us some more information about the XJS vented 3.08 rear diff. What years have the 3.08 diffs. Do you swap out the entire rear end or just the diff or diff gears. Did you do it yourself or have a shop do it?

Thanks in advance

I'm afraid that I was just a messenger relaying information (without actual experience myself). To get more concrete information you might start with:
