For those of us with fond memories...anyone care to opine or even admit if they have a model E-Type?
(in order of exquisiteness)
1. Amalgam 1:18 $US970, 1:8 $US15,381 Jaguar Models – Amalgam Collection
2. Autoart 1:18. Typically $US500. Generally obsolete, some available on E-Bay.
3. Kyosho 1:18. Seems to be the next best and/or perfectly good. Some available on E-Bay.
4. Other brands, might be lacking the finer details or opening stuff.
5. Revell 1:24. Just bought one of these for $30. Needs building but fortunately I'm a modeller.
I'm seriously considering acquiring an Autoart. Yep $US500 approx.
The best part of acquiring one of these E-Types, is that they don't need servicing every year!
Your turn
Hi Chris,
Yep, I'll admit it. I have Jag models. Four of them.
One is a 1:8 scale monogram plastic kit that I bought 40 years ago when I bought my 68 FHC. Still un-built. I also have a battery powered tin FHC (about 1:18 scale) that was one of my toys when I was a kid living in Brasil. When my family moved to the US I gave it to one of my cousins. When he he found out that I purchased the real thing he gave it back to me. And then I also have two Kyosho I think, 1:18 scale red FHC and red OTS.
I also have to admit that I have a model of almost every sports/classic car that I own or have owned over the years.
I am not familiar with amalgam. Do they only sell built models or do they sell kits as well? I saw the photos of the kits, but I don't understand where the value comes from for their built models. There are professional kit builders that charge somewhere about $500 to $1000 depending on the complexity of the kit.
Anyway, they have some cool kits.
Any body else want to share their model collection?
Bill.
I'm jealous of the 1:8 Monogram kit. They are rarer than the real thing. (1 in US, 1 in Poland, about $US500)
I asked Amalgam if they could do 1:18 in red. No. But they'd happily customize the 1:8 $US15,000 one lol.
Red is rare on any brand.
Here are some photos... it's a New Bright product.. @ 11.5 inches long; 4.5 wide.. 1/16 scale. Labeled as a 1961 model. Purchased in 1995, have original invoice/instructions/box (not in really good shape, but all there. No kid ever touched it.. so it's in pristine condition... mostly sat in the box (batteries out). I'll post it in classifieds as well, but put all fresh Duracells in it, control box lights up, but car won't do anything. Both control power switch and car power switch are on. ?????
Turns out the official merchandise website (https://shop.jaguar.com) sell the Kyosho 1:18 coupe unbranded of course. Reasonably priced too.
When I can identify models better than the real thing, it's time to worry...
------
Regarding RC problems, I'm an RC modeller. If stuff has been left unused for years, check for corrosion in the battery connections or any connector like servos. Known as "black wire corrosion", whether it's the black wire or the corrosion is black I can't remember, but clean all the connectors up as best you can. (I'd scrape with a sharp knife)

Chris,
No need to be jealous of the 1:8 monogram. I see them on e-bay form time to time and not for $500.
There is a modeler on YouTube that has several videos posted of him building the 1:8 monogram E-Type. The detail work is incredible.
I must have read every review on the planet. I have to save up (will myself up) for an Autoart, which has better detail than the Kyosho and that's what it's all about.
(this for built-up rather than kit) And a monogram too if I can find one.
Notwithstanding that the "Gold Head" is a bit off, and as far as I remember the SU's should have black caps.

I am not sure about the SU caps. What year is the model? The tri-carb set up I have for my 68 has the brass caps, but I am not sure if they are correct either. I do like the brass caps better though.
Can't remember when they changed from the brass caps to the black plastic caps. Got to do some research. But back to the model, you can always paint that caps if you are sure they are supposed to be black on this year car.
Bill.

Looks very correct for an early model. Heads were more ochre than gold and su caps are supposed to be brass and air cleaner is correct too - no lines.. Only thing that is 'off' a little are the tires/wheels - a little wide - but only a little. It's a beautiful specimen for sure!
Here's a '64 3.8 ex UK and a '65 4.2 ex California for sale here.
I've no idea why some caps are brass and some black. But I did find a reference that early S1 3.8 heads may be "Burnt" color.
Cheers! '64 3.8, '65 4.2
Oh, thanks for pointing out the air cleaner lines!

So I did. Purchased a brand new Autoart 1:18 Red over Black E-Type Coupe, from Switzerland. I only ever found 2 for sale world-wide, which makes it rarer than the real thing.
I know what you're thinking...$US680 !!! ($680x18=$12240, is that a bargain?lol) BRG or Black significantly cheaper, but I had a Red one. [yet to turn up]

In the meantime my Revell 1:24 kit turned up, but that's an exhausting amount of work to build properly. Plenty of Youtube videos for anyone interested.

Yeah. E-Type. 1/18 is best I can do. Wife even offered to pay so long as I lay off her Jewellery!
Yes I sure will. The only other Autoart red one, in Japan (currently viewable on ebay) had poor paintwork near the left headlight and splotches on the roof. This one is sight-unseen so a risk. Oh the woes of buying an E-Type even a model one
Apparently it's so accurate, that you should be cautious if you see me answering other mechanical problems on this forum...
So my Autoart 1/18 E-Type finally arrived. It's very detailed, working suspension, hand-made wire wheels n'all.
Only fault I can find is the rear disks appear to be outboard! (does that matter? LOL)
Hi Chris,
That is a very cool looking kit. The wire wheels look really good. Just in case you are still looking for one, I just saw a E-Type Monogram 1/8 scale kit on Ebay buy now for $185.
Bill.
I love the Monogram, Bill.
But...my wife might then think I'm going overboard
