Default Solution to That Pesky Gas Smell on Your Jaguar

We have a 1962 Jaguar Low Drag Coupe in the shop that had a horrible gas smell that smelled up the entire shop. This is due to the fact that gas tanks on these particular Jaguars vent to automosphere, thus having a very small amount of gasoline evaporating and stinking up the surrounding area. We solved this issue by using the following aftermarket charcoal filter: https://www.classicperformancerestor...th-a-fuel-tank

We used the 8 inch variant from the link I provided above, and the results are incredible, absolutely zero smell of gas after installing this charcoal canister. Wanted to share our discovery as I find this to be invaluable for any classic vintage Jaguar. I'll attach a photo of our Jaguar with the charcoal canister installed. Happy tinkering my friends!

Wow! That's really nice! My Series 3 Roadster suffers from a bad petrol smell, and my shop already went into the trunk to repair all the fittings, so this might be a good next step

Nora, the Series 3 cars sold in the US all have an evaporative emissions system so on our cars the gas vapors are not vented to the atmosphere like on the earlier cars. Your gas vapor smells are most likely coming from old, leaky hoses in the evap system, commonly from the vent lines in the boot that go to and from the gas tank and expansion tank - both on the left hand side in the boot so ask your techs to check those. The expansion tank especially is hard to get to so unfortunately replacing those hoses is not an easy job so keep that in mind when you ask them to replace hoses.
