Default starter relay required with new starter ?

I am reassembling my 66 e type, and wondering if I need a starter relay as I installed a new aftermarket starter.
I guess the question comes down to whether the ignition switch can handle the amps for the starter motor coil.
Comments?

The starter motor is energized through a starter solenoid so the draw isn't quite as bad as from the starter itself. That said the V12s have a starter rely and I suspect the Series 1 did too. I'd want one regardless as the less current through the ignition switch the better in my book.
