Subframe for e type

Subframe for e type
Hey everyone, after removing my subframes from my 68 2+2 and after talking to a welding company and Chuck and monococque, I have come to the sad realization that I need new subframes. So.....Etypefabs is no longer around. It seems like most of the big parts suppliers sell the subframes. Are certain ones better than others? I am not super excited about spending a couple of grand on this, but I believe it needs to be done. Thanks

I presume you're talking about the engine cradle frames that attach to the bulkhead (US=Firewall). These were originally made from square-section tubing, the tubes being the steel alloy "Reynolds 531". This alloy does not allow for steel welding, so the frame was bronze-welded together. Nowadays replacement frames are made from more modern alloy steels, as R531 dates back to 1935. My first bicycle given to me in 1958 had a frame made from Reynolds 532 tubes !!
