The first 3.8 litre flat floor FHC registration number 9600 HP was driven flat out from the Browns Lane factory in Coventry to the Geneva Motor show for the launch of the E-Type on 15th March by Bob Berry who arrived just 20 minutes before the start of the show. The car was an enormous hit with a huge amount of interest from both the press and public that Sir William Lyons, Jaguar Chairman, phoned the factory at the end of the first day and ordered the first roadster registration number 77 RW to be driven over to arrive in time for the opening of the second day of the show. The driver was Norman Dewis, Chief Development Test Engineer who was told to instantly drop everything and drive the car across Europe to the show. Both Bob Berry and Norman Dewis whilst being Jaguar employees were also accomplished racing drivers, Berry drove the works D-Type registration number OKV 1 successfully to several wins whilst Norman Dewis drove works C-Types notably in the 24 Hours Le Mans races partnering Stirling Moss.

:Norman Dewis
So this attachment is a retelling of the Norman Dewis trip 60 years ago pulled from the Hagerty Insurance newsletter. I'm sure they don't mind. They also presented a while back a video on the development of the automotive disc brake in which Norman was instrumental. Very good piece, with Norman and Stirling Moss interviewed and telling about the disc brake development in the C type.
