The drivers door on my 2017 F Pace and XE have an extra clunk when closed. Very un-luxury car like. Tech at dealership said the adhesive bonding the outer door skin to the intrusion beam has failed.
Took the trim panel off which was surprisingly easy and unscrewed the plastic panel to reveal the door innards. In other cars I have worked on this panel is adhered with some super stick stuff and you destroy the panel trying to get it off. The F Pace just has a bunch of large head screws and it popped right off revealing the intrusion beam and the failed adhesive. I already had a bunch of Butyl tape so I cut a couple strips of that and fashioned a butyl rope that I then crammed into the open space. Door panel no longer claps against the beam.
Interesting to see the intrusion beam is bonded to the door skin on the F-Pace. My driver's door was recently replaced after it was hit by another vehicle when parked but I haven't needed to strip one down myself.
On the XK the intrusion beam is shaped to leave a deliberate 5mm gap between the beam and the door skin.
Presumably the larger door panel on the F-Pace is more prone to flexing and contacting the beam.
