Car shuts down when passenger door opens/closes
So I bring the car to a stop and my front passenger exits the vehicle at which point the car just shuts down. I'm stranded and I can't restart it as it goes through the shut down procedure while traffic is backing up behind me. It's repeatable too when the passenger door is opened or closes and happens whether its in park or on auto brake hold. Its like the passenger door is wired up like it was the drivers side, which also shuts the car down when the door is opened, but this is expected.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing you wrote. It's as if the passenger door and seatbelt wiring has been plugged into the driver's side harness setting of the sensors. Did it always do this since new? Still under warranty? I would think this is something the dealer would have to fix because who knows where those wiring harness and sensors are?

After giving this subject a second glance, it reminded me of the situation I encountered with my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 2014-15 models have a God-awful, electronic shifter, and I use the term shifter, VERY loosely. It has no inherent feel, whatsoever. You never know, by feel what gear you've selected. It was so bad, they reconfigured it for 2016. Nonetheless, some rather young, up and coming "Hollywood star" had one of the so-equipped Jeeps. As he was leaving his residence, he drove down his driveway, and stopped to get his mail, from the mailbox.
Apparently, he wasn't paying attention, and A) didn't fully engage the "park" position on the shifter; and B) he didn't realize the Jeep was still rolling, after he got out of it, and walked in front of it (or behind it, I don't recall) and the Jeep continued rolling, pinning him between itself and the gate at the end of the driveway. He died, due to his injuries, and most naturally, his family sued Jeep.
What happened next, since the shifter is electronically controlled, is Jeep released a recall, changing the shifter's operation, such that if the driver's door is opened, with the vehicle in gear, it automatically shoves the vehicle into "park". What a PITA, at times!!
