Real AWD Capabilities on the F Pace?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding the AWD capabilities on the F Pace? From what I can gather online, the F Pace looks to have an 'Automatic AWD' system, in which 99% of the time power comes from the rear wheels only; when wheel sensors detect the front wheels slipping, computers will activate the front two wheels as well.
If so, this is a rather inferior all wheel drive system and does not provide much help in slippery driving situations (snow, mud, etc). I have no intention of overland safari excursions in the F Pace, but ski trips in the snow, absolutely.
For those unfamiliar with how AWD actually works, there is a great short youtube video showing a true AWD Subaru Outback tackling a slippery hill vs. a Volvo XC which is equipped with the 'Automatic AWD' (same as the F Pace) here:
. The Volvo XC clearly struggles.
There is also a great short write up here explaining AWD systems here: What is the difference between full time four wheel drive, all wheel drive versus automatic all wheel drive (on-demand system)
Thanks for any insight!
