Self Sealing Tires instead of spare tire?

Self Sealing Tires instead of spare tire?
Question about 2023 f-pace spare tire. The build specs say the following:
"fp012-basic interior protection pack reduced section spare wheel"
However there is no spare wheel or jack etc in the back. The area under the back mat where the spare would be located does not even have a space for a wheel. There is styrofoam under there but it just has random spaces in it that would not fit a wheel. I emailed my sales rep and he had this to say:
"I did find out why you don't have a spare in your car. They are equipping some F-PACE's with Self Sealing Tires from the factory. I don't know how this works exactly, but that is why you don't have that space for a spare."
Has anyone heard of this? Do I not need a spare tire?

JLR (and other manufacturers) have been moving away from the cost of including a spare wheel and tools for more than ten years. First it was the 'skinny' spare wheel, then it was the sealant kit and more recently Pirelli, Michelin and Continental have all introduced 'self sealing' tyres.
The 'self sealing' works on the tread area - no good for a sidewall puncture. Here's descriptions from the major manufacturers:
https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-gb/...ge/seal-inside
https://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/...contiseal.html
https://www.michelinman.com/auto/why...eal-technology
It's intended as a temporary solution until you can get the vehicle to a tyre depot for inspection/repair/replacement.
My F-Pace has a spare wheel and tools; my XK has a sealant kit. If the XK gets a puncture it'll be going home on a recovery truck for which I have breakdown insurance. If I had 'self seal' tyres, I'd take the same precaution.

I agree with GGG.
I wouldn't go out of my way to BUY a self-seal model of tire. And if it came on my car as standard, I wouldn't worry to replace the technology once the tire tread wear out sicw years from now.
What bothers me is that none of the manufacturers I've read worry to explain how your are supposed to be AWARE you have a puncture, even though you are expected to have the tire properly repaired once you get home.
Is your TPMS system tailored to detect a momentary change in pressure? While the nail is sealed up with the mastic-glue stuff inside the tire, does your car's electronic package have a way of telling you "hey mate, don't panic but you've just received a nasty nail in your left rear tire--it's patched, but when you get home, have it seen to."????

from looking at the websites they suggest its ok to drive on unless you loose air.
the keen driver may notice the imbalance of a nail.
I am not sure I fancy hitting the autobahn with a nail in my tyre- would it generate extra heat and cause a blow out, or could it become a projectile, imagine that at 155mph coming off someones back wheel!!!!
Surely they have thought about and tested this?

I call your puncture and raise you with one of mine from Sept 2019:
I didn't have my space saver spare in the trunk/hatch at the time so I had to get someone to fetch it from my garage for me, long story short it was a four hour saga before I made it home!
