Had my new to me 2017 S in to the dealership for an alignment and the multi point check out. Tech called out an oil leak from the vacuum pump.
Service advisor quoted $250 for the seal replacement and another $250 for an oil change because all the oil would fall out of the oil pan when the vacuum pump was removed. (Not true.)
Googled vacuum pump seal and found videos from RKX Tech. $35 for all the seals and about an 8 minute repair.
Bought a Husky small torque wrench so I could do the prescribed 10nm's and a set of ramps to lift the front end.
No oil loss. No big deal as long as you're relatively mechanical.
Vacuum pump still leaking a bit. Talked to my BMW tech buddy and he said Mini's have the same pump and they warp out of shape over time. Suggested a new pump may be the only solution. I said I may try tightening the two screws that mate the pump to the block again, they are compressing two gaskets and the 10nm torque setting seemed too light. He said it was worth a try as long as I could feel the screw hit max torque before starting to fail. He said it was a dumb design in that the two screws mounting the pump to the block were offset and only two screws. Three symmetrically placed would have been better.
Thanks much for that comment about the housing warping. That's great information and new to me. Before the O-ring kit had been all it takes to seal things up.
I wonder if we could plane the surface somehow? I wonder how expensive the vacuum pump is? Kind of afraid to ask!
We have been told multiple times that you need to drain the engine oil before removing the vacuum pump or you will lose a good bit of oil? You had no additional oil come out after the vacuum pump was removed?

I left my carbide scrapers at my last job. Need to buy a new set. I was unwilling to touch the block with anything else, not wanting to gouge it or hit it with a cookie wheel on my M12 die grinder and take it out of plane. I should get some of the ones meant for aluminum.
FCP has the vacuum pump for $218 at the moment. Not a big deal really.
Having the front tires up on ramps made it really impossible to loose much oil. I don't know how much you'd loose if it were on a hoist.
It was interesting to me that the pump is full of oil and I realized it's an oil bath part.
Got around to swapping out the pump. Bought a new one from FCP and changed it out in about 1/2 hour including dropping the front of the belly pan and cleaning everything up with brake kleen. I’ll keep an eye on it for leaks.
