Make them match the black bits on the car - or - split the difference - satin finish?

First thing I did was get rid of all that cheap plastic chrome. Unless it's on a classic car, and actually metal, chrome looks cheap and fake.

I'm not into the "black thing," but why does black painted plastic look not "cheap and fake?"

I'm all for murdering the F-Type (check my garage photos) but that plasti dip doesnt look great dude. I'd try the 'brilliant black finish' to integrate with your paint job. The matte looks cheap to me.

Also your reg plate is lol.

it's not as perfect as actual black plastic or something that's naturally black, but it's just a personal preference. The whole super chrome escalade look just doesn't work for me. Not a bling person. On an old mustang or E-type a chrome metal bumper or mirror looks right, but not on this or a lambo or ferrari

i tested a more glossy look, liked the matte finish more, the contrast looks better

OK, good answer. Thanks. Personal preference is certainly understood, but I prefer the "fake" chrome over black.

It was too easy to plastidip the badges and test it, it's impossible to mess up or ruin. I really wish jag had a color matching option for the badges though. And some matte or frozen paint like bmw. I talked to the dealership about having them painted but wasn't confident in their abilities. Maybe when I relocate to a city with better shops.

I am with you.

Chrome looks like chrome. There is nothing plastic looking about our chrome.

Black plastic though is by its essence cheap. The only correct way to black out the badges is to get black chrome badges. Anything short of black chrome is just vandalizing your own car. It makes more sense to debadge than to cheapen the car with plastidip or a black plastic badge.

Re: matte vs gloss..I would say try to match the other black body pieces, so matte migh look odd if everything else if gloss black.

That looks cool. Yeah I've thought about doing the other pieces like the vents and stuff. I'll probably just do something temporary like plastidip again to get a sense of how it'll look.

Besides personal preference on the way it looks, what is the difference between black painted plastic and chrome painted plastic? Half the car is painted plastic.

There's no difference at all except personal preference. However, you said the plastic chrome looked "cheap," so others naturally wondered why you thought black painted plastic somehow looked less "cheap."

Maybe cheap wasn't the best way to describe it. I guess I just associate chrome more naturally when applied to metal or something. And when it's plastic something about it just seems fake. Like those carbon fiber panels on the one wheel. Or even worse, cars that have plastic pieces with a carbon fiber pattern. But I still don't get how painting something is cheap, unless you have a delorean what else are you going to cover parts with?

When I was deciding on whether I was going to apply something to the badges already on the car or order new ones and have them black chromed or painted, I asked the dealer about buying a new set. All of em will run you a few hundred.

I was going to have the originals removed and done but they come prebacked with 3m tape and I was concerned about having it scraped off and an aftermarket glue reapplied. And without a template or computer lining up the individual letters I wasn't confident in a persons ability to reapply them 100% perfect.

If any of those risks don't concern you as much, I'm sure someone could black chrome them for you no problem.

Fully agree that if you order the exterior Black pack, the leaper and F-Type lettering should also be black...
