$340+labor Steering Clock Spring fixed for $72!
The factory price for the clock spring is $340 plus tax. i found out that almost all jaguars use the same clock spring. so i ordered a used one off ebay for an xj, and several other models, then i made some minor soldering changes and "tah dahh" it fixed all the issues with the steering wheel button controls, air bag light etc.. now i can focus in troubleshooting my misfire issue.

In my experience with steering wheel conversions, while the clock spring may have the same design and look to it, that does not necessarily mean it will be compatible with all models. Maybe it will in this instance, but when you look at a production year 2014 (so produced in 2013) through mid year 2015 (production dates in 2014) the steering wheel control wire harness that plugs into the buttons on the steering wheel, changed design and changed the wire schematic. In addition, the small plastic retaining ring, that hosts the metal connectors that allow the clock spring to work correctly, also changed design early in the F-Type production. You cannot take a steering wheel with full controls off a 2014 and move it to a newer model, without removing both the buttons themselves and the wire harness that sits inside the steering wheel. While this video/thread is about the clock spring itself and not the steering wheel control boards, per se, it is important for anyone who might decide to do a steering wheel swap like I did from an earlier model F-Type.
My donor steering wheel came from an early model F-Type and sent that off to be recovered and updated through Guardian Designs. They did fantastic work, but as we learned together, the buttons and wire harness were not the same. Also the alignment marks inside these earlier steering wheels are also not the same. That wasn't a big deal as we marked it ourselves when we removed the old and new. Nevertheless, we had to transplant over the wiring and buttons from the original steering wheel to the older style one, to make sure everything functioned correctly. While the paddle shifters themselves are completely backwards compatible, they did not work until we changed the wire and buttons over, plus we had a dash warning message (can't remember now what it was).
I only post that here, as someone might be looking for an answer to this concern I am posting and might be useful for someone. Here was the final outcomes of the steering wheel swap once done, it was and still is amazing.
