Just got back from middle of nowhere, PA 1/2 mile racing from a dig. Overall pretty solid event, fun and def something I'll do again...hopefully with more power.
It was cold....very cold and it was basically a no prep street race (so to speak) - even on DR's and a burnout, the rwd cars could not launch hard :/
On the bright side, I was in a dead heat with a Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale and beat up on (well, beat...) an R8 V10 that had a tune and exhaust.
Best run was 154.6mph...but the fastest guy was 195mph, bananas. Car ran well, didn't break or do anything weird.
We have some runway sprints here in Aus, most are a standing 1000 meter sprint (so a little longer than halfmile, 5/8ths) but there are also an 800 meter event in the west which is the same as a half-mile.
The quickest car here over the 1000m is an R35 GTR which did 16.829 @ 203.9mph
The runway racing is really starting to take off (no pun intended).

Yes, NoFlyZone does one at least once a year up near Bakersfield. $200, limited to 100 cars. I've done it twice, once in the F-Type and once in a tuned TT-RS.
When I went the max I hit was 162mph from a rolling start. But temps were in the upper 90's that day. That was when they also raced a Veyron, tuned 12C, and tuned GTR against the Kawi H2R. Fun events to go to at least once.
Interesting article from a 2008 C&D. It also illustrates how tough it is to get to 200 mph and how much distance is required if you want to get the car stopped in one piece. One car took approx 4000 ft. to get to 180, another approx 4000 ft. to get the extra 20 mph to 200, and another 1500 ft. to stop. You're talking a minimum 10,000 ft runway, which you could land the Space Shuttle or the largest jumbo jet on.

That was an awesome run. Too bad you didn't get to do a mile or you'd be able to take the fast Jag in the mile label from me. In the half you're there for sure.

Thanks man! Yeah, in my head...before the race...I thought it would be barely different than 1/4 mile racing. But that extra 1/4 really took some focus - an entire mile flat out - must be some experience. Couldn't imagine what it's like for the really fast guys.
I was there on Friday and it was even colder. 20° over night, all cars frozen next morning and still 38° by lunch time. Wheel spin into mid third, almost no chance to put the power down. Best run was 152mph.
Do you have any mods on your car? What tire and size did you actual run on? I was on stock Pirellis, will finish them and switch to MSS 305s for Wannagofast in VA next month.
Yessir, also have some mods. ECU tune and a lower crank pulley done - that's it for now - but have a few other things in mind over the next 1-2 months.
Up front OEM sized 20's - Pilot's.
Out back 305/35/19 Mickey Thompson drag radials. In theory you (should) have nice warm weather in VA next month and hopefully there will be some prep there for the RWD cars. Even so, I'd highly suggest you slap on a set of drag radials for it to really launch the car.
Honestly, you're welcome to use my rear wheel & tire setup. Rub is you're about a 2hr ride from me.
That makes me feel pretty good, being on stock tires and starting out with a frozen car. everybody had their car idle for 20 minutes at the hotel as nobody had an ice scarper .... It was 38 degrees all the way to lunch. Feathered throttle maybe a 1/4 in all the way until the end of third gear.
