17 R Lease Expiring Buy-Out Or Purchase New?
As the title suggest, my leased 2017 R, which is well equipped will expire in a few months. The residual is $66K as I leased it with zero dollars down out the door. This is my second F Type as I went from an S to the R. Make no mistake, I am very happy with this car, as such I'm seriously considering buying out the lease. One other factor, there was a "discrepancy" on the delivery date so the selling dealer put a jaguar select edition extended warranty of 7 years or 100K miles in anticipation of my might buying it at the end of the lease.
The case for the 2020 is a bit more technology, such as Apple CarPlay. I enjoyed the exhaust notes on my S and definitely the R. The ship has sailed for spirited driving however, when I so put my foot into it, I want to experience the rush. That said, I am hesitant to go with the P 300 or the P 340 as I'm not sure what to expect.
I appreciate, in advance any pearls of wisdom from the group...

I'm in a similar situation. 17 R coupe, residual 59K. I know that I won't ever be satisfied without a V8. First car I've owned (leased) that I didn't feel any need whatsoever to mod and tune for more horsepower. My purchase monthly payments would be more than my current lease monthly...I'd be looking at a 5 year old car in 2 years (warranty decisions etc) My lease is up the beginning of May, I might try and hold out to see if the MY21 hit the dealerships around then and see what kind of lease I can get. Model year 21 V8 with SVR specs and suspension /tuning mods sound good. Not super crazy about the new headlamps but they're not too bad . I'm concerned that the exhaust sound may be too muted, but more reviews and side by side comparisons will be popping up shortly. I'm thinking new lease payments may be close enough to what my my purchase/loan payments would be to be worth considering. Time will tell.

My previous ‘16 R coupe was only worth low $50s around a year ago. My previous ‘18 R was only worth low $60s when I traded it last month. Prices really tank on these cars. So you may be better off letting the current one go and picking up a clean low-mileage one for less since the dealer may have more room to move on the price on a car that was traded in.

Hi. We have the P300 in our XE. It is a lovely engine and actually sounds pretty good but I think coming from an S and an R you would find it lacking in the drama department. I would have to say though, if I was looking to go to the new shape and the 4 potter was 2/3 the price of the p380 I would find it pretty tempting, bearing in mind that over here the premium is about $40K, which rational me says is a lot to be paying for a second faster on the sprint and more noise, but irrational me says is bearable because you only live once. But I took mine out yesterday for a run in the hills, about 120km of twisty roads there and back. I think the torquey p300 would have been ideal for it and you can really push the car into the corners harder with the lighter front end, so for the mountain drives it would be perfect. But in the daily commute and being able to hear the growl when you are accelerating from the lights, the S or R would be my preference.
Between the p300 and the p340 (base 6) I personally prefer the 4. I appreciate that it is a touch slower in the sprint, but it doesnt feel it.

IMO, I would recommend purchasing the car if you really like it as opposed to getting another used model. Why? With someone else's used model, you run the risk of uncovering possible issues where as you already know how yours has been treated. Even if it costs a little more, you'll know exactly what you bought on day one.

I personally don't like the facelift for the 2020, so I'd want to keep the 17. $66k seems a little steep for a 2017 though. I just bought a 2016 for $42k and it's optioned out. I will say, though, there is something to be said for buying a "used" car when YOU were the previous owner, so that might be worth a bit. What kind of mileage have you put on it? If you're using all 15k miles you're allotted and have 45k miles, $66k seems too high, for me. If price isn't an issue for you though, I say keep your 2017 and if you want apple car play, just swap out your head unit for one that supports it. You can get a much nicer head unit installed for around $1000 total.
EDIT: just saw you said you had 19k miles. $66k still seems a little high, but again, given that YOU are the previous owner, that makes a pretty big difference, so I think even if money is a factor, I'd buy it out

I just got the 2020 R a few months back and I am super happy with it. I always use apple carplay and the infotainment system is sooooooo much better compared to the previous, I used to have a 2016 V6S and the growl in the R is definitely worth upgrading.
I'm sure you can get a good deal as the dealers are trying to push them out for the 2021 if you are going that route.

Ehhhhhh... I don't know about all that. It's only about halfway through the model year. Dealers generally aren't trying to "push out" cars until May-ish, or even well into summer, depending on when the following model year starts to be produced, which is usually around September. I guess if they're already cranking out 21s in March, sure, but that seems unlikely since this is a new body style and they want the hype to stay fresh on the 2020, not to mention I'm sure they have some kinks to work out for 21
