Because if anyone actually has fitted a 305 on their rear they've probably got an interest in this thread. If you don't like the way we do things you can always ask for your subscription fees to be refunded...

Do Lizard's photos in post 31 answer your question?

I have wondered why too. I'm not clever enough to know if that would affect the handling.

Woa take it easy buddy... I was just asking a question, I never understood why people are so aggressive on forums, but whatever.
What I was saying is that my question was pretty specific, and I know/remember a bunch of members posting that they have 305 on 10.5 inch wheels. Once someone has them there is very little reason for them to inquire or go through every post of a thread such as this; but I guess none of that matters your highness.

I would expect most members to have email subscriptions turned on automatically (the default) so the contributors to this thread will receive an email telling them there has been a new post on this topic. I believe that it what Cambo was referring to when he said they would have an interest in this thread.

The only reason I didn't go with 265s was they were unavailable in the PSS when I first ordered them. The second set, I hadn't bothered to check. Next time I will go with 265s.

So now that its buried in the end of this thread, most probably its gonna be glossed over and ignored with no answer...
Thanks
Not to worry. I'll take a pic or 2 tomorrow. There is no stretched bulging and looks like a perfect fit. Michelin specifies a 10.5-11.5 rim width range, so it certainly is within acceptable range.

LOL, you got the information you wanted though, right?

You're welcome.

I want to see how the sidewalls sits with 305 on 10.5. I usually don't do 305 on anything smaller than 11 inch, but am thinking about it as I'm due for tires...

Thanks

The additional overhang really helps to avoid curb rash.

Since the tire is squished to create a contact patch, that contact patch is affected by the weight of the car. Since the weight of the car hasn't changed, and the pressure in the tire hasn't changed, the contact patch will be the same size because it is squishing the same amount due to the weight. The only way to increase contact patch size is to decrease tire pressure. And here is a handy-dandy calculator to help you maximize contact patch area/direction based on your needs:

BND TechSource - Tire Data Calculator

And also an article that maybe explains it better than I did:

The summary of all this is: Wider tires generally help lateral grip. Taller tires generally help reduce wheel spin (with lower air pressure to boot). And stickier tires help everything.

P.S. I'm the poor engineer fighting these battles.
Why assume that the tire pressure doesn't get changed? ...All that theory is true.....to a point. The actual likelihood of increasing the contact patch by going with a wider tire depends on the specific relationship between the tire dimensions and rim width....it isn't the same in all circumstances. In any case, a slight reduction in tire pressure (if necessary) will often allow the wider tire to get the full advantage and larger contact patch of the increased tire width. In the old days we used to use chalk on the tread as an aid to determine the appropriate tire pressure to optimise the contact patch.

As far as F types go, I've got no reason to disbelieve that the reports from Ironmike and others that the 305 PSS offers superior traction to the OEM 295 P zeros.....and I'd guess that the extra width helps if the pressure is set properly. When my (sadly) new P Zeros are worn out, I will be going to the 305 PSS's based on the feedback from Unhinged, Ironmike and others.

2 cents,
Dave

Not sure if this helps any of you guys but I always use this calculator for all my needs: Miata Tire Calculator | Online Miata Tire Calculator Tool

I wanted a plus 1 size for my 20's on my XE and there are none out there so I used this tool to find what works and I a mall set now.

My fronts were 235/35/20 and rears were 265/30/20 and were way too thin o the sidewall so I checked the tool and found that 245/35/20 fronts and 275/30/20 rears fit and are within 1% of each other so the AWD and ABS systems won't freak out.

Its so nice having more sidewall now and no side effects because the dealer said there were no options at all for my car in 20's. They were sure wrong.

Will do. Bad weather (sleet and ice) arriving and here through tomorrow. Probably won't be until Sunday before I pull it out of the garage to get enough light on the subject matter.

It's 77º now and I would like something resembling cool weather.

I hereby vote Unhinged's car the nicest looking F type I've seen......plus it's likely the fastest V6 F type in existence and due to get even quicker! Well done! insert virtual bow here. :-)

Now get that P7 grill and surround installed and it will be about as good as it can get! (...I know, I'm procrastinating too! :-) )

Cheers,

Cheers,
Thanks for the kudos. Much appreciated. BTW, ss23 has the same setup (upper/lower pulleys and VAP tune), but with an AT, so his is probably the fastest.

I still need a solution for mounting the 2 inboard proximity sensors in the P7 grille. Somebody mentioned some BMW brackets that might work. Can anyone help?
