Thumbs down 2014 F Type Faulty convertible Roof

Hi I purchased a 2014 F type convertible 5L S 11 December 2020, private deal from DEALER NAME REMOVED (GGG). REG (Registration removed - GGG)
The roof failed to operate so I took it to SPECIALIST'S NAME REMOVED (GGG), the roof went down and would not go back up. They had the car over Christmas and they carried out all the tests, replaced the battery and I ended up with a bill of nearly £900. I took the car home and after a couple of days tried the roof and exactly the same happened, it went down and just would not go back up, only the side flaps! It is now back at SPECIALIST'S NAME REMOVED (GGG) where they said the new battery was faulty so Jaguar will exchange under warranty. They replaced the battery and told me they would keep the car for a couple of days to test and try the roof. Yesterday which was Thursday the 28th of Jan I was about to pick the car up but unfortunately the roof would not operate again!! Can anyone advise what the problem is please as SPECIALIST'S NAME REMOVED (GGG) are clutching at straws and I am just racking up a massive bill. I have probably only done 50 miles in this car and so far it’s just been at the dealers.
(i’ve just noticed in the history file that there was a roof problem back in March 2020 where Jaguar London had it in and that occurred and £800 bill!)
Thanks and I hope someone can help
Robert Menghini - tel number removed (GGG)

Convertible roof issues are not common, but a few times they were reported on this forum it seems to be a complete disaster. I would look into returning the car to seller unless this issue was disclosed or car was sold as-is.

purchased the car from a private dealer so usually it's it's sold as is, everything seemed to be working fine when it was purchased. If the problem isn't resolved then I will probably get back to the Trader

From what I remember about reported convertible top problems on this forum several of them were due to the drain holes in the top storage area becoming clogged and enough water collects to damage either the motors and/or the wiring harness or position/limit switches.

I also seem to remember that in one case the up/down switch was faulty.

Apparently the drain holes have been checked and this roof area is dry.I would’ve thought they would’ve checked the app down switch.
The Service manager is in contact with Jaguar technical and if they don’t get any luck themselves at Dick Lovetts MELKSHAM I think a technician from the factory will come down to look at the car?
I would’ve thought they would’ve checked the app down switch?

If this starts working properly (for a while) after a battery change, then it could be an issue with damaged wiring causing a drain on the battery. I will say, most dealers try not to trace wiring issues because it can be time consuming. However, that should have been seen by checking the previous battery before changing it out.

I have read your REPORTED POST and reviewed this thread. As more than 400 members have already seen it and 3 have replied. I will NOT delete the thread. However, I have removed the vehicle SUPPLIER and JAGUAR SPECIALIST's names from your original post.

Your frustration with this problem is understandable but you should think very carefully in future before posting complaints about suppliers or services on a public forum. Neither forum owner Internet Brands nor individual members are immune from the consequences of allegations which may or may not be true.
