Default 2015 F-Type R Torque App thread

I found a bunch of threads on the Torque App, so I set it up and used it for a long drive today in my 2015 F-Type R today.

in searching this forum, the torque app discussions are in a bunch of different threads, so I thought I’d try to capture it all in one thread for the 2015 F-Type R drivers out there.

First question: where can I find a spec for what the range of values should be? Preferably this should come from Jaguar.

Default Values from my last drive

Here are the highs and lows from my drive today. (See screenshot)

Second question: why did the coolant temperature not budge at all from its initial value during the whole drive? All of the other temps started off at the outside temperature more or less and then increased from there to a steady-state value

And why in F not C like the rest of the temp readings? Looks like it's stuck at 0C?

Figured out why one is in Fahrenheit and the others in Celcius. The app has a settings page for units.

Home > Gear icon > Settings > Units

There's a toggle switch for "Use Celcius"

That controls the global value for units if a metric has not specifically specified which units to use. If a metric has overridden the global value, it will use that. I had "Use Celcius" originally toggled off, so the coolant temp value showed in F. The others showed in C because they're custom metrics imported from a csv file I found in another thread here that are specific for Jaguar F-Types.

Not sure the need for this thread but I had started one which I mentioned the 2 values that I kept and eye on here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...9/#post2749927

FYI, the Torque Pro app is not specific only for 2015 vehicles.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, this thread is meant for the 2015 F-Type R owners to share their min/max/average values for each of the metrics

Default Units consistent; Correct coolant metric found

Ok, 2 things to report

1. I’ve set up global and local values to use Celsius. I live in the US where Fahrenheit is the default, but I get that the rest of the world uses Celsius

2. I found that the first coolant metric I used was called “ECU(18): Engine Coolant Temperature”. That doesn’t give anything other than a 0 value (Celsius, equivalent Fahrenheit is 32 degrees). The correct metric in the list to use is called “Engine Coolant Temperature” (without the prefix ECU(18))

here’s what my latest drive showed (see screenshot)

If you want imperial values, start with the file on post 40 here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...-278601/page3/

There’s a formula to use but I don’t have the Android phone near me atm so can’t tell you what that is.

The formula is:

((A-40)*9/5)+32) for engine oil temp, gearbox oil temp, and rear diff temp in degrees F

A/6.895 for Boost in psi

I’ve started a spreadsheet to capture min/max/avg for the AJ133 (8-cylinder, 5.0 liter, 550hp, with supercharger) specific values during each drive from Torque Pro. The values in this sheet should be used only for the 2015 F-Type R variant. They may be relevant for other model years and other variants of the engine, but no guarantees.

Also, as I am the n-th owner of this vehicle, I can’t guarantee that the onboard computer does not still have a tune installed from VAP (I emailed Velocity AP; they said they won’t tell me, based on VIN, what previous owners did with the car).

I should also state that this engine is a reman engine from Tapa Jaguar & Land Rover Engine.

If you want to add your values to this spreadsheet, make sure you have Torque Pro installed, add all values to the “what to capture” settings for logs, and select the “Start Logging” menu item at the beginning of your trip. At the end of your trip, use the “Share Logs” menu item to email me the logs.

A V6 here:

Oil Temp 65 to 214 F (takes at least 20 min of driving to get to peak temp)
Gear box 65 to 170 F (takes at least 20 min of driving to get to peak temp)
Coolant 65 to 210 F (once warmed up, about 5 to 10 minutes, between 204 and 210 F)
IAT2 65 to 145 F
Boost 1.5 (coasting downhill) to 15 psi (hard on pedal uphill)

Just normal driving with occasional sprints.

What I've found is that city driving tends to run the engine hotter (between 95-100 degrees C), and highway driving tends to run the engine less hot than city (between 85-94 degrees C) due to the air-cooling at higher speeds.

Also, I do get stuck in traffic, so I'm investigating having the second battery (which is currently dead) replaced so that ECO mode works again. My hypothesis is that when I'm stuck in traffic, this would start/stop the engine, keeping it from overheating.

Thanks for the values! Adding C values for apples-to-apples comparison

Oil Temp 65 to 214 F = 18.33 to 101.11 C
Gear box 65 to 170 F = 18.33 to 76.67 C
Coolant 65 to 210 F = 18.33 to 98.89 C
IAT2 65 to 145 F = 18.33 to 62.78 C

Great reference points, is oil pressure not present?

i have a gig coming in soon, let’s see if it drain the battery or not.

No oil pressure data.

One thing I noticed today was the temperature display in the car reads at the middle (normal) when the actual coolant temperature is only 160 F and it reads normal when the actual temperature is 160 to 210 F.

Had an interesting observation with the Torque app and OBD Link MX. My car was asleep (no lit up red triangle on hazard light switch) when I went into garage to get something (I just always look). About an hour later I was playing with the Torque app in my home office which is next to the garage and forgot to close it when I was done. I went into the garage again and happened to glance in the car and the red triangle was lit. I had the car key in my pocket and wondered if it was the key or the Torque app that woke the car up. It was not the key but the Torque app. Verified this by quitting the app and waiting 15 minutes. The triangle was off. Opened the app and the triangle lit again. The bottom line don't leave the Torque app open with your phone in bluetooth range with the OBD Link plugged in or the car will stay awake. Hope this observation is of help to others.

Note my car has never had any problems associated with use of the OBD port and battery drain.

New toy arrived and plugged in, looking good and doesn’t seem to drain the battery either!

where all craps are made as some people might call it, China.

Joking aside, i got this directly from the manufacture in China, it’s also available on aliexpress for similar price, Google magician f835plus obd2.

Plugged it in last night and only briefly glanced over the functions, initial impression is good, okay build quality and material, tach is a bit laggy but not a big deal, the 9 box display is where the meat is.

Oh and the English translation is very chinglish if i had to nitpick.

That’s a bummer! Why a family suv has that info right on the dash and looking good while doing it is beyond my comprehension (Cayenne).
