Default 2016 F-Type R Convertible - about to leap

Looking at a 2016, clean background and low miles. I think the 2017 had an upgrade to the infotainment. I assume the main features are the 2016, but performance was of the unit was enhanced. Assume the apps for remote start, etc. are 2016 capable and that the incontrol subscription can be extended after the 5 year period?Anything else changed on the R worth moving to a 2017 (and the associated increase in price)?

In 2017 Jaguar upgraded plastic coolant pipes in the engine bay, drastically reducing the chance of them spitting and dumping all coolant.

Can't tell you on apps, my Canadian spec 2016 F-type does not have a cell modem. Just the way I like it.

I have a 2016 R I recently bought as well. Since I am in AZ with extreme summer heat I am interested in possibly upgrading the coolant pipes. I have the InControl app for the car and when Jaguar helped me get setup it looked like it was still good for another 5 years.

Car is headed to Florida for much of the year, so maybe this coolant tube issue is worthy of more research.....

Yeah, I have a '14 V8S with 21,000 miles and scheduled to to have the coolant tubes replaced at my Indy shop.

Rough costs on coolant tube replacement? Assume not a warranty item?

Nice car. But just be aware that buying a used Jaguar sounds good, but accept that it will cost significantly in the future. So it is probably better to buy new and benefit from their extended warranty.

But my experience fwiw: Had a Low coolant light at about 15,000 miles, and I thought that I could smell glycol. I stopped in at one Jag dealer and they said, it's low coolant. Contraction of coolant on a "cold"? LOL ie 60F Florida day and topped off the coolant. A couple of weeks later I got the same Low Coolant light and again I thought that I detected a glycol smell. But this time I took it in to my regular dealer and they found a leak.
Replaced water pump, seal, tube, pipe-outlet, tube, thermostat, gasket, gasket, antifreeze, hose, reservoir bleed hose, vacuum refill, plus labor of course @ $165/hour. Fortunately it was covered by warranty, but I can only imagine what that Low Coolant repair would have cost me.

Pretty pathetic really for a $110K car to need that sort of repair at 15,000 miles.. plus other too many to mention. My wife's Palisade and previous Sorrento were/are bullet proof. Never go into the shop. Even my 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS has no issues whatsoever, other than needing tires!

But I love my F type in spite of all that, an awesome beast, and just accept that it'll certainly cost me greatly now that it's out of warranty
Just some empirical data for you to consider, and be forewarned.

Hope this helps

Very helpful, thanks. I checked with local dealer on an extended warranty (they use Axiom as there extended option). Pricing is reasonable and car is still in warranty for a few more months, so better options. This is one car I would actually consider an extended warranty.

I don't know anything about Axiom, but will check it out just for information. It would probably be wise to go the route you are considering, but it's all a cost vs probability decision. But I'm sure that you will love your car ! Congrats.

Debating between a loaded (orig. $90K MSRP) 2013 Boxster S and the 2016 F-Type R vert....

I know, way different cars, but actually not THAT far apart on used market. On paper, the Jag blows the Boxster S away in power (HP, etc.) as well as killer looks. Although the more toss-able Porsche is about $10K less, not sure I would stare at it everyday the way the F-type seems to do. The Boxster look has grown on me, but it in the end the price of exclusivity and unbridled power is a huge draw. First world problems....

For me I would prefer the Jag. Much funner to driver. I had a Cayman S, it was fun but nothing compared to the V8 power. Nothing on the market looks like an Ftype imo.

- Are you sure about that? What is the source?
- I guess that the better pipes are available for retrofit?
- Are these upgraded cars are MY2018 (new bumper, new headlights, new seats), or are they earlier models?

off topic, but would it be wise to replace a ‘15 R’s coolant pipe with a newer ‘17 pipe, even if there is nothing wrong?

any idea what the dealership would charge for this?

I just had this done; I would guess it's prohibitively expensive if the supercharger isn't off. Mine was off, as it needed a new isolator/snout, so I asked them to replace the suspect cooling pipes too - the dealer knew what I was talking about. They said the water pump was starting to leak, so they replaced that too. They didn't charge additional labor for the pipes and water pump (thanks Scarborough!) - the parts total was $590, including the $340 water pump. S/C labor was $1K+. Note, these are dealer prices, though I believe they gave me a bit of a break on pricing.

This is not a warranty item but a "technical bulletin", like a recall and they are required to fix it for free. Will not cost you anything. Call your service adisor and give him the TB# and he can tell you if it is for your vehicle, I would say yes because it goes from 2014 onward and the vin# is "K00001"

my understanding is that recalls are done for free because they are a safety concern. Tb's on the other hand are fixes dealing for known problems but don't necessarily put a driver in an unsafe situation and dealers can charge for this (out of warranty specifically). I'll have to call my local dealership to find out but would like to hear from those who are out of warranty. this probably deserves a separate thread...I'll look into doing that if I don't see a thread about it already.

By 2017 you mean MY2017 cars? Because my SVR is a MY2017 but it was manufactured in mid 2016
