I am looking to replace my 2006 Jag and found, what I believe to be a great deal on an immaculate pre certified car with only 33,000 miles on it. My longtime autohaus is going to take a look at the car for me. Are there any major engineering defects for them to keep an eye out for? I would appreciate any thoughts. Thank you.
No, there are no major engineering defects (assuming that it has the ZF 8 speed automatic). The normal precautions apply: a good and up-to-date service history, no accident history, no signs of abuse, no leaks in the cooling system, or at the differentials). A prepurchase inspection by a knowledgeable dealer is always worth its cost. If it has the original Pirelli P-Zero tires, replacing these with appropriate Michelins or Continentals will improve the ride and handling significantly.
These cars like and need full battery voltage all the time. If the car still has its original battery, it is probably nearing replacement time with a fully charged (please note that) new battery. A failing or undercharged battery will result in all sorts of seemingly serious issues - but the cause is almost always low battery voltage.
The F-Type is addictive, gorgeous, satisfying, comfortable, FAST, and envy-making. Do not use this as a bank robbery getaway car. It is not inconspicuous! Be prepared for constant admiration, comments and questions and it is best to know now that when you park it, every single time that you park it, you will look back at it. This is perfectly normal behaviour for the owner of every and any Jaguar, but you know this already.
