Default 2017 jaguar F Type-R / new engine questions

Hey everyone,

so my jaguar f type -r 2017 has 40k miles and I’ve had it since it had 5k miles.

I was driving on the highway and the revs were stuck high like it was trying to change gear, so I changed it automatically. Car jolted and literally just turned off with no power. Anyway got it too a dealership and they found out that coolant had been dumped into the engine and something to do with the gasket. Anyway they said it should get approved as I have warranty and all the paperwork/maintenance with it. They estimated 40k in repairs but my question is, is it worth having a brand new engine as I assume it’s like a brand new car in some aspects or is it worth trading in? Just would love some opinions and views!
Regards callum

Default Warranty situation....

Your car is no longer under the manufacturer warranty, yes? My car is also a 2017 F Type R sports car with 12000 on the clock. In my opinion, Jaguar's best F Type R was the model for 2017. Starting for 2018, I believe Jaguar started cutting corners to lower expenses and save money on the build of the car. One example is the Sport seats. For model year 2018 they put less cushioning and padding Into the seats making the seats harder, less comfortable and marketed it as a benefit for weight savings but in reality it's for Jaguar Land Rover to save money on material.
There's always trade-offs on every model of your car. For 2018 and going forward the navigation infotainment system is superior due to the larger size screen. These cars have their pluses and their minuses for every model year. If your car is in cherry condition I would hold on to it.

Thanks for the reply mate!

yes it is still under the main warranty so it should all be approved after speaking with them.

yeah I love the car! I actually think the seats let it down because there so stiff haha! I think if I was to trade it in , it would be for the SUV wether that’s a Range Rover or jaguar f pace svr BUT my main question is with a new engine I assume it’s literally a brand new car so I would be silly?

Default Oh ....

If your not thrilled with the padding and cushioning of the 2017 model year sports seats, you would absolutely hate the 2018 and forward sports seats. If you love the car have them drop in the new engine and be done with it. Your essentially have a brand new car.

You might want to ask the dealer whether you’d get a new engine or a rebuilt one.

Either you started with an extended warranty or you BARELY made it under the wire. As of this week, my MY17 F-Pace has now been out for a year.

Dave's question of new vs rebuild is a fair point. They're fully entitled to use a rebuild, if they have one available, but it's possible they won't. There's a good chance you'll be without the car for an extended period of time - possibly months - so I hope they'll take care of you and/or you have a spare car in the meantime.

Overall, I'd be inclined to stick with the car you have. Enjoy the renewed engine while avoiding a new depreciation curve.

The early MY18s had the (IMO superior) smaller screen with nice physical buttons.

Thanks everyone!

It will be a new engine and be finished within two weeks so they say! And yes I did barely make it, I’m so happy I was not stuck with that bill!

So what exactly failed that caused a catastrophic destruction of the engine? How is it costing $40K (what other collateral damage resulted)?

I'm truly sorry to hear that happened. I love your Red wrap! Really hope this situation works out for you!!

I have a 2017 R with 28k miles. It's a CPO Jaguar 7 yr / 100k warranty. I'm not sure what would happen if my car went through this?

It was something to do with the head gasket and collar has been dumped into the engine? I haven’t actually seen the report or anything as I’ve been traveling etc.

the red wrap was amazing! And I also think that is the warranty I have at the minute , I’m so glad I do because I honestly thought my warranty had ended!

anyway cheers for all the input. I’ll drop a final message when I know the full details but yeah I think I’m going to keep the car as it should basically be brand new haha
