kind of disappointed with this. nothing but a mere facelift, which im not too crazy about. feels very mustang-y

 

I wonder if the new grill will fit the old car....

 

I highly doubt it, the size and shape looks totally different.

 

One is beautiful and looks like a Jaguar. The other looks like any other car on the road today and has no personality.

 

Great comparison, older analog dials look better along with the rear lights, the front ,I can't get my head round it, the old shape had it's ditintive design, the new one is more main stream, looks the same as some other makes

 

Styling opinions are all going to be 'to the eye of the beholder' and subjective.

I find most modern Jaguars look more Honda-esque than I'd like, but I can understand from a marketing standpoint why JLR want to make the car appear 'mainstream' to attract younger buyers.

Personally, I'd prefer something that pays homage to the XJ13 with a longer wheelbase and mid-engine layout.

 

They should call it the Faudi

 

I understand styling is subjective, but the original looks bespoke and sharp. The redesign looks so generic and mainstream, it's like a Mustang designed by Audi. It's following the legacy of the E-Type, get's progressively worse every redesign.

 

As someone else commented I forget where - it's a two door XE

 

Nothing wrong with a 2 door XE, we have a 4 door one and I love the looks of it.

But I only just realised - no cross bar on the grille d'oh!

 

I like grille, but not crazy about the headlights... There are bunch more details here.

 

I'm very happy with it, you can see 2014-2020 prices rising already.

 

Rising or depreciating?

 

Ho-hum. Some changes for change's sake. The Mazda-like grill is just the P-7 grill enlarged to Mazda-like dimensions. I really don't think the slit headlights are an improvement. The vertical headlights and blades in the front air scoops feeding into the body creases was inspired. Now there are large black plugs in lieu of the blades and horizontal slit headlights that no longer blend into the body crease. The whole flow of the design has been lost. The thing looks more like a Miata than a Jaguar. Admittedly the original design was so of a piece that improvements are not easy. However the rear tail lights, like the ones on the original XK-8. are a little lacking. This was an area that could have been improved like it was on the XK-8.

I wonder what the original lights would look like with the new grill. Maybe someone will try to show that.

The interior has technological changes, but I don't recognize any design changes.

Dropping the 340 V-6 was ill-advised. The 4 cyl has an image problem and the S (380) has a price problem. One of the reasons the Sportbrake is a dud is that the S configuration adds too much to the pricing.

My guess is the Jaguar fan club will notice the changes, bu that the market will not. Let's see if JLR can move a few more units with the changes. That will be the test.

 

The problems are existing in every company. You have a hudge successful guy (I.C.) that leave at a certain moment, so the eternal second become first.
And after this long waiting time he want to change everything from the guy before. See Trump-Obama. But here it is at all costs, without basic consideration
of the consequences.
Dear Jaguar staff, this F-Type downgrade will have more negative effect than Brexit, I fear.

They did a slight interior upgrade with the stitching patterns, but why on earth take away the more aggressive thicker steering wheel?....they should have focused more on interior like the DBS Aston does with diamond stitch patterns. Leave the exterior alone. The whole front was destroyed with the new headlights.... they do NOT belong on the F-Type.

 

Officially it's a facelift before the all-new electric F-Type in 2023.

 

JLR has been selling the F-Type on the basis of the noise it makes since it was introduced, and you are suggesting they are going to go to a silent version. Spirited driving drains a battery like a hole in a boat. A losing proposition for sure. I think an electric for around town or going to the market is a fine idea, but they are inappropriate for long distances or sports cars. Maybe some day, but not 2023.

 

The sound is not the problem. You need bose surround speakers and 2016er sound from SD-card. We will all be on electric in some time, because of the clima crisis.
And I fear that they may also ban used cars lying over a certain co2 emission. That could happen. We are now with the 2020 F-Type R in Europe about 249 and I think that the non EU version is about 999. The EU 2020 F-Type R has also integrated particle filter.
So, as example I drive normally a VW Touran Diesel and I am pretty sure that the next will be an electric by force. Anyway all 2020 F-Type R that are new are not allowed anymore to be immatriculated in Europe from past september/2019 on, exception are some special end of life arrangement with dealers. My R was immatriculated for 1 day before 9/19, So, no problem, used car with 28km. But for the moment all F-Types based on EU norm 6 are out as new cars.
